Hi Eddie - us old timers who remember SNL from this era (late 70s?) are likely biased to some degree, and not dissing the current talent, but the Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain et al cast … hard to beat IMO. 👍🏻

He's making an offering of the blender - commercialism, modern material goods - to the god's idol. This skit is a riot - it never fails to crack me up.

He does a mini-monologue about how commercialism has poisoned ancient cultures, then performs a 2-minute funk song about "King Tut" in cheap Halloween costumes. Peak satire.

The blender is just a joke in itself, he said "golden idols' like the stuff Tut was buried with, and it like showing what is considered valuable to us in modernity, compared to ancient valuables. It's just absurd, it's Steve Martain, the King Tut of absurd humor.

This song made it to #17 in 1978. I loved hearing it. My car had an FM converter. Most people won't know what the hell it is. But it took your factory am radio. And gave no stativc fm. Old car am radios would cut out. Or stop under a bridge or tunnel. FM was the thing. Anyway this song was hilarious back then. And unlike mentioned not offensive to anyone. Back when being funny was ok. Telling a joke was about laughter. Just watch Sammy Davis Roast by Dean Martin. And the original SNL not ready for prime time players. Great times!!👍☮️✌️🎸♥️

Late 70's - mocking the commercialization of the Tut Museum tour. King Tut socks, hats, t-shirts, coffee mugs, panties, thimbles... and the Tut family didn't get one penny.

OH MY, you need to watch the ORIGINAL cast members in the first years it was on......GILDA RADNER, BILL MURRAY, DAN AKROYD, JOHN BELUSHI, CHEVY CHASE, JANE CURTAIN, GARRETT MORRIS and LARAINE NEWMAN. THIS (1975) was when EVERY SKIT was HILARIOUS!!!

@patticrichton1135, I remember well the original cast. I have an album still like new. I never gave up my vinyl. It's the "not ready for prime time player's". Very funny skits. Funny enough you didn't have to see just listen. I was 15 that first year, 18 when this happened in 78. Had recently discovered weed was fun, especially with SNL. Belushi,Radner, curtain, chase, Murray, Aykroyd, Newman. Morris. I think I got them all. Brilliant shows. Now, it's the upcoming the 50th season. Unbelievable. The list of stars discovered on that show over these 50 years. Incredible. Many don't realize their favorite comedians started on SNL at some point. No other show in tv history has produced as many greats!! Fantastic memories. For me, a 70s teen now, a white-haired old dude. I'm still watching. Can't believe me and the show both survived. Great times!👍🤣☮️

This SNL episode is widely regarded as one of the best, if not THE best, ever. It was one of those rare nights where EVERY sketch was dynamite, and that didn't happen as often as one might think, even in the OG era. It was the peak of Classic SNL, perhaps equalled, but probably not surpassed. This song was a jewel in a magnificent crown.

Tut, like many pharaohs, was buried with all kinds of everyday objects from their lives. The idea was that the person would have everything they might need during the afterlife.

Committing fully to his dorky presentations is Steve Martin's thing. He was different fr everyone of his time. He's kind of the last slap-stick, but for brainy people. He has never done political commentary, but he is amazingly multi-talented. The movie "Roxanne," written, directed, and starring Martin. It's a lovely and family-friendly movie but totally written for adults the way Looney Tunes can be. It's silly but with some genuinely beautiful scenes.

I think the blender was a gift to the Gods. This was roll on the floor funny when it came out. Go back further for the best of SNL. Steve Martin also plays the banjo with his band "Steep Canyon Rangers" For an entertaining song listen to "Pretty Little One" you won't regret it. Thank you 😊❤

The entire thing is satirical hypocrisy. In the beginning, he says how he thinks it's a disgrace how the exhibition is being used and abused, and then he does the same thing.

This was 1978... you should do some old/Original SNL cast shows... George Carlin was their first host. Another great comedian... Steve Martin also plays banjo and has a band. SNL has had some great hosts over the years. I stopped watching in the 80s when I was a teen. And wasn't home on a Saturday night to watch.
