The father is the amazing Phil Hartman (RIP). He played a couple of voices on the Simpsons and a great character on a great old sitcom, Newsradio. Phil was a huge talent, sought after voice actor. His death, murdered by his wife, is something you could find a lot of videos about here on YT. This sketch is probably the most iconic of it’s era on SNL.

@@MysterClark You're right, but then SNL doesn't have the fandom it used to. When Jamel was trying to figure out who Phil Hartman was, I knew he was thinking of Bryan Cranston. I can totally see the resemblance.

Phil Hartman was a part of the SNL cast for years. He was very versatile and could handle many different roles. His impression of Bill Clinton was legendary during his presidency. He also did an impression of Frank Sinatra that Sinatra himself enjoyed. Chris Farley was always hilarious on SNL. He always put everything he had into every scene and was one of the best physical comics that SNL ever had.

That guy who played the father was Phil Hartman... one of the comedy greats, so funny. Played two characters on The Simpsons, Troy McClure, washed-up former star of everything you've never heard of; and Lionel Hutz, shady ambulance chasing lawyer who LOVES making his own loopholes to stiff his clients. He was also in his own show, NewsRadio - he was in fact one of the main characters! Unfortunately - you are such a wholesome person I hesitate to say this, but I must since you asked - he had some big problems with his wife, Brynn... she was addicted to drugs - one night, he threatened to leave her right out of the blue if she didn't quit - that very night... she killed him, and shortly thereafter herself. Incredibly tragic end to a really great comedian. Great video as always Jamel AKA Jamal. Keep them coming!

Phil Hartman's Reagan was terribly funny. Talking to the little girl scout who sold all the cookies "Well, if you're such a good salesperson, we could use you on Capitol Hill". She leaves. "That's the part about this job I hate the most. Alright! Back to work!" He starts working out how they can pay Iran for hostages by buying arms from them. Then they can use the arms to help the contras. His cabinet wants to call it a day. He says okay and starts making phone calls.

The fact that the "motivational speaker's" voice always sounds as if he's on the verge of tears makes this doubly hilarious. Not to mention Farley's incomparable physical comedy. And when he says that "Rollin' DOOBIES" line, both David Spade and Christina Applegate are complete toast. Lord knows how they managed to carry on without completely losing it. Pure comedy gold, this one.

Phil Hartman, not the guy from Breaking Bad. Yes, the table was scripted. The last time Chris Farley hosted SNL before he died, he did a skit with Lorne Michaels where he was trying to get back on the show by saying he still had his comedy chops. He tried to do a scripted pratfall through Michaels' desk and bounced off of it because it wasn't a prop desk, which was the gag. One of the last times SNL was funny.

I especially remember him, the wolf man, and Dracula singing Christmas carols in a sketch on one of SNL’s holiday shows. I still miss him, and it still breaks my heart how he died. They had to do this skit 5 or 6 times because everyone kept breaking character except Chris, who was on a mission to crack them up every time. This was the only one nobody fell over in hysterical laughter even after he tried his best by belly flopping through the table. He and Spade had a rivalry to make the other break character in every skit and they were BFFs in trw.

It's amazing how many KZbinrs were inspired by Matt Foley to become motivational speakers living in a van (car, truck, camper, RV) down by the river. Some of them build huge outhouses and call them tiny off-the-grid homes. They're shacks, in Canada we use them for ice fishing.

This came out around 1991ish as I recall. Saw it live on TV when it first aired. It turned into a recurring skit, and you always k new it was coming because they'd say "he's been drinking espresso for about 4 hours, and I think he's ready." And then he'd always crush something like he did the table (which was supposedly a mistake when they did it in this skit the very first time). Hilarious. You should also give the Coffee Talk with LInda Richman SNL skits a whirl. They were hilarious too.

One of SNL's greatest sketches, by some of their best members (the cast of this era, and the original one from the 70s, were THE vest SNL ever had)! If you like cast members in live comedy sketch variety shows trying to psyche each other out, and losing (or nearly losing) composure, then you NEED to watch The Carol Burnett Show! Tim Conway, one of their regulars, was notorious for going off-script and purposefully trying to bust up cast members! In a very famous outake reel from one recurring sketch on the show that was very popular, the "Family" sketch (which some years later spawned the "Mama's Family" tv sitcom), Tim goes off script again. But, at the end, after he spent several hilarious minutes trying to bust up the cast, one of them, Vicki Lawrence (who plays "Mama" here and in the spinoff tv show) gets a line in that breaks Tim Conway! If you search "Tim Conway Elephant Story", you'll find it! It's usually the condensed version (it went on for four minutes or so in total...the condensed one runs about 2:55, and contains the best stuff)...you'll bust a gut laughing! The sketch starred Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, and guest starred Dick Van Dyke. But there's so much Tim Conway did on that show that is wprth sering!

Phil Hartman is playing the Dad. He was on the regular SNL cast. Unfortunately, his wife shot and killed him when he was in the prime of his comedic career. Chris Farley and David Spade were best friends during that time. SNL has always been known for its cast members' improvisation, so the table bit probably wasn't in the script. Jamel, I strongly recommend that you do more reactions with Chris Farley. Thanks for the laughs and a great reaction. Rest In Peace, Chris and Phil. 😪💙✌
