That’s Kinga’s father: *Irek Glyk* (there is a little slash across an “l” which maks it sound like “w” so the proper pronounciation of their name is *Gwyk*). *BTW... Mega thanks for acknowledging drumers work. It’s not very common that drumers are noticed, let alone acnowledged.*

I stumbled upon this band by pure accident! I am glad I did...WOW! These are great musicians; I am struck by the youthfulness of some band members, in particular the bass player. She is VERY talented and I can clearly see that's she's an educated bass player.
@pageljazz5 жыл бұрын
I'm noticing a trend among many of these prodigious young musicians. For a long time, everything was shred, shred, shred, chops, chops, chops, chops. Lots of technical display, but not much depth. This young woman is very mature. She's playing with some very sensitive musicians, and she complements them perfectly. I wouldn't say her personal style is fully developed (in this video, anyway), but it's obvious that tone, nuance, and phrasing are as important to her as technique. And she's not the only one. As I said, it's a trend. I'm not sure where it's coming from, but it's very encouraging not only for the future of music, but for the survival of our civilization.
5 жыл бұрын
This is a beautiful comment. I loved reading it and sure hope you're out there writing such things in other places when it deserves attention. I do hope these sounds of music that seem so important to people like us will contribute to the survival of our civilization.
@ziko28775 жыл бұрын
She tore the roof off the place, and you said “she complimented them perfectly”. This perf is amazing and needs no explaining. You blew it.
@pageljazz5 жыл бұрын
Ziko So... Did she *not* complement them perfectly? Doing so is indicative of extremely high musicianship and maturity, rare among even experienced players. I think it deserves mentioning. And what did I "explain", exactly? It was merely an observation. Your comment serves no purpose, but thanks.
@ziko28775 жыл бұрын
@@pageljazz nah, you went on to critique her playing and act like you’re in her head. You didn’t actually say anything complimentary and windbagged all over the place to make yourself seem important and musically knowledgeable. I see you.

I have been playing this clip over and over since it was published and continue to be blown away by the sheer impressive feel of this wonderful band. I know absolutely nothing about Kinga Glyk, but it goes without saying that she is a sensational and most impressive bassist of extraordinary ability. But let's talk about the rest of the band too. Tight, incredible feel, sheer musical empathy for each member's contribution and they swing like crazy. Although Kinga is 'fronting' the band, I reckon every member is of equal merit. Great contributions from each of them. Other reviewers here have commented that it's a family affair. Wow! Maybe I should encourage my (currently 12-year-old) daughter to follow Kinga's footsteps! I especially love the piano playing, but then I love the guitar playing and drums too. All great. And finally ... what extraordinary quality of sound and overall mix. Great work by the engineer at the audio console. I'm listening via my iMac through a NAD D3020 amp, Q Acoustics speakers and sub. The track sounds sublime. If only I could get my J bass to sound that great when playing live!

This is like a conversation. Each instrument has it's own space to shine, they listen to each other. Also it makes me very happy to see her there, aside from her performace which was brilliant, I don't see many women in jazz aside from singing. Overall, brilliant. And that drum intro was rad. And the piano had like this continuous perfect balance of tone and intensity. Just wow
