the idea behind the song is ignorance, jealousy, envy and the others are what plaque our hoods. He said he got struck with knowledge of self so he is helping others fight those traits that plaque us as African Americans. So a metaphor yes but also very literal in what he is saying he is metaphorically making those traits people but it's the downfall of us as a people often times.
