the idea behind the song is ignorance, jealousy, envy and the others are what plaque our hoods. He said he got struck with knowledge of self so he is helping others fight those traits that plaque us as African Americans. So a metaphor yes but also very literal in what he is saying he is metaphorically making those traits people but it's the downfall of us as a people often times. Listen to part two you'll get a better picture. Back then we had so many trying to teach and educate the youth so props to you for being willing to check it out we need more young brothers like you. Peace to you and yours bro

Hey Ahmad, Love your channel and how you get into the lyrics and story telling on these classic songs. ------ That's what you had to do back in the day. A&R talent folks would force you to come up with something unique to distinguish you from the rest of the other rappers. However, its was Primo who was the A&R plus the producer for Jeru. ------- They pushed each other to come up with some classics joints.

Wrath of the Math is up there as one of my favorite hip hop albums from the '90s. Just revisited this for the first time recently, and you can hear how it laid the foundation for Wrath. Me or the Papes and Whatever are classic tracks.
@lethaldose2000 Жыл бұрын
hey Ahmad, you came close to the concept of the song. -------- To clarify, we talk of ignorance, envy, deciet and so on as traits or metaphors when dealing with human behavior. -------- Jeru made them into villainous characters, like in a Batman flick and as the Prophet he had to battle them as they spead their brand of evil throughout the ghettos of America. ----- The concpet of this song was so clvera nd original, I can understand why it took you a minute to graps what was going on. Great reaction. Keep em coming.

Dollar bill y'all, is the god we trust The days blow by like dust Even men of steel rust We're out here acting ridiculous When, only we can save us Mentally enslave us, for little or nothing kill our neighbors Animalistic, caniballistic, behavior Look to the sky for your savior He won't save ya, he didn't save your forefathers Why bother, brothers? you must discover The power of self, know thyself, or find thyself Hating thyself, killing thyself While he collects the wealth that you sit back and murder for Ain't the devil happy." I can't believe you haven't done "Come Clean." CLASSIC TRACK! Tbh, you should do the whole album. His first 2albums were produced by DJ Premier. This is also one of the guys that Biggie was dissing on "Kick In The Door." That line... "Son, I'm surprised you run with them, I think they got cum in em, cause they nothing but dicks", Biggie was actually talking to DJ Premier. Premier said he had to stop the tape 😂 Pete Rock got a remix to "Can't Stop The Prophet" that slaps harder than this.
