This reminds me of a similar story I have. When I came out as trans my gran suddenly stopped letting go shopping for her, it took me ages to find out why. Turns out she thought I was gonna get attacked, despite me going out every day and doing my own shopping at the same supermarket. tried explaining to her that no one could tell i was trans by looking at me but she wasn't having it, it was a few months later before she let start getting her shopping again.
