There are advantages to the pastic vacuum packaging, but... the disadvantage is all that plastic! Not just a burden on the planet and us to produce, from the sourcing of the petroleum, through manufacture, use, and disposal - but plastics readily transfer synthetic chemicals to whatever they come into contact with. Check it out. The more I learn about plastics, the more concerned I am. They are NOT inert. And the mor flexible plastics apparantly have more chemicals of concern in them. I would rather have my meat wrapped in old-fashioned butcher paper. People who are concerned about freezer burn may want to consider turning off the automatic defrost switch on their freezers. Especially for storage freezers; if we open them as little as possible, and grab what we need once of twice a week, they rarely need to be defrosted, anyway. The freezer compartment in the refridgerator is different, since family members may open it often, but we can use up what is in there before restocking from the storage freezer.
