25:30 - Say something like "Molly-Tov cocktail". But you're not to blame for not remembering the name. It's named by the finns, during WW2. Named after Vyacheslav Molotov. From wikipedia: The name's origin came from the propaganda Molotov produced during the Winter War, mainly his declaration on Soviet state radio that incendiary bombing missions over Finland were actually "airborne humanitarian food deliveries" for their "starving" neighbours.[13][10] As a result, the Finns sarcastically dubbed the Soviet incendiary cluster bombs "Molotov bread baskets" (Finnish: Molotovin leipäkori) in reference to Molotov's propaganda broadcasts.[14][10] When the hand-held bottle firebomb was developed to attack and destroy Soviet tanks, the Finns called it the "Molotov cocktail", as "a drink to go with his food parcels"

For QB, if you havn't already gone back to watch S3E6 Mark planned to propose during a trip (taking along the ring), but before he did, he decided quite euphorically that he didn't 'need to propose'... Unfortunately Sophie found the ring while he was getting lost on the Quantock Hills with Jez. So when he returned Sophie simply 'accepted' without him actually having to propose (the existence of the ring was enough). And he 'accepted' her 'acceptance' out of fear of embarrassment! 🤣 Such a series of events would and could ONLY happen to Mark! Lol. Sometimes I think Peep Show is mainly an exercise in trying to bring to life the most tortuous and torturous life events possible for a character like Mark Corrigan!

Molotov cocktails were so named as a response to 'Molotovs Bread Baskets'. Molotov was the Soviet minister of war during world war 2 (the peace treaty between Nazi Germany and the USSR at the start of the war being called the Molotov-Ribentrau pact). The story goes that during the 'Winter War' in Finland, the Soviets were dropping incendiary bombs on Finnish civilian targets but claiming they were infact dropping aid packages. Consequently, these bombs earned the darkly, cynically funny name 'Molotovs bread Baskets'. In response, when partisans or the finnish armed forces attacked russian positions with petrol bombs they called the petrol bombs 'Molotov cocktails'. I.e., "here's a drink to go with your bread".
@-psykonaut-
@-psykonaut- Жыл бұрын
Everything else you got correct but the one thing you got wrong is that the molotov cocktails were not used to attack Soviet positions, but Soviet tanks. The Finns only had 3 effective methods against Soviet tanks. Shoving logs in to the tanks crawlers to bring it to a halt, throwing petrol bombs, aka. molotov cocktails into the engine bays of the tanks killing or forcing the occupants to exit the tank to be killed, and the "motti" tactic where they would cut a long convoy of tanks and infantry moving on the narrow roads towards Finland into smaller sections by destroying tanks along the convoy, thus making them locked in position and then letting the soviets to sit in their tanks until they either froze or starved to death, or out of desperation finally exited the tanks to be swiftly killed.

I think Mark was more on the fence about the marriage, sure the house added to the pros. The reality is peoples life circumstances do play a part in deciding if they are worth marrying. How many people go looking for love amongst the homeless or drug affected? Realistically Mark and Sophie could have had a great marriage in the long term. With Marks personality he would probably be alone and miserable, or find someone else who he would eventually find fault with.
