Re: smoking on a plane. You could definitely smoke on planes in the 90s. The last time I went on a plane that allowed smoking was in 2001. I was on a flight to Turkey with Air Anatolia (Turkish airline) and they had a smoking section which was divided from the rest of the plane with a curtain. I remember a woman standing behind the curtain smoking while she held her baby on the other side of the curtain with one hand.

You actually watched the S2 Christmas special already before you watched S2 (the one with the priests lost in the lingerie department) in the original broadcast order it comes after this episode. Sadly S3 is the last, Dermot Morgan (Father Ted) died a few hours after the wrap party completed for S3. The writers state they had already decided to end it there, but I think had he lived there would probably have been an occasional Christmas special (probably after a break of a year or two) even if the main run ended here. British shows are produced very different to American shows. They're normally wrote by one writer or a writing partnership and often have a single director for the entire series. The Series (British for Season) normally has 6 episodes perhaps rising to as many as 13 for massive hits. FT getting 10 episodes in its second Series reflects its success. The actors aren't under long term contract and would potentially be involved in several shows and films in the same year. This can often delay filming for the next series as one or more of the principal actors is unavailable due to other commitments so filming has to wait until everyone is available and cast members may simply be wrote out if the delays are too great or the actor has become to successful to be affordable. S5 of Being Human, its final series, contained no cast members from S1 or 2 as the original cast became to successful to be affordable, whilst shows like Doctor Who made cast changing part of the plot and have ran for 60 years. For most shows there can be gaps of a few years between series just to ensure everyone is available. FT had a gap of nearly 2 years between S2 and S3; but other shows have had much larger gaps (Red Dwarf has had only 3 series and 2 specials this century for example). Finally shows tend to end when the writer(s) call time. Its unusual for a show to continue with new writers (it has happened but its rare), normally if the writer is out of ideas the show ends. But show ends aren't necessarily final; an occasional Christmas special can continue the show for years after time was called and occasionally shows can return for a full series after gaps of more than a decade. Sadly S3 of Father Ted has only 8 episodes rather than the 10+1 Christmas special that S2 had. There are some great episodes still to come, including several personal favorites. But that is the end for FT.

I don't know if you realised, but the priest who acts like a monkey also appeared in the episode where Jack "died" - I remember King Boomer cracking up completely at his walk 😂😂 Actually, this episode is kind of a reunion from the first two seasons - they got a lot of past characters to be among the airplane passengers. If you look closely, you can spot the two priests who visited to watch the sports video last episode; Father Damo the teenage priest from "Old Grey Whistle Theft"; and a black priest who also appeared at Jack's wake after his "death". Father Jack kind of got what he deserved for stealing the parachutes, but I did enjoy him socking the annoying priest at the start! 😂 This is the last episode of Season 2, and unfortunately there are no further specials (although there are two spooky ones that could count as Halloween ones...) Anyway, from now on, we really get into the golden episodes of this show!! Season 3 is the most consistently strong of the three seasons, in my opinion! Next time on _Father Ted:_ Ted discovers a whole new side of Craggy Island, makes some unfortunate impressions, and gets an even less fortunate gift!

A few months ago I was introduced to a series called “INSIDE NO 9”. I had no idea it existed or what to expect but found many of the actors you have enjoyed making a 9 season series of half an hour episodes that will get you hooked after the first. Each episode is individual and there is always a twist. It will play with your mind. A new season has just started. There are many KZbin discussions about what is the best. That was around 87/88 but the ban came in soon after that maybe 90/91. Both my parents smoked back then and I would watch them trying to get one last smoke in before getting on the plane and not being able to have one for 4 hours or so then lighting up again as soon as they got off at the other end.

My Grandma spent 40 years in a Parish Church House as housekeeper (Basically Mrs Doyle's job Cooking, Cleaning Making the Tea etc). In the mid-90's just after the first episode of Father Ted aired she twisted her ankle and couldn't bring her usual tea tray into the dining room where there were 5 or so priests over for dinner, so she she had to bring the tea out on a trolley and say her usual ''tea fathers?'' - she looks up and sees all 5 of the priests in absolute hysterics to her bewilderment and confusion...as she hadn't even heard of Father Ted. They then had to explain to her who Mrs Doyle was and to watch Father Ted, the priests absolutely loved it 😂😂

Queen Boomer was exactly right about it being too cold and too little oxygen up that high, also the plane would be going too fast to safely jump and as soon as he opened the hatch the air pressure would have sucked him (and everyone else) out. However, that was Father Jack so all bets are off.

Definitely late 80s there was smoking on planes. I remember being one few flights. The back section was designated smoking and separated from non smoking by a curtain lol. I'm not sure when they stopped it.

😂😂😂 *EVERY* American reactor misses the pure quality of the "listening to Mr Bean joke"... Mr Bean is hilarious yet almost silent comedy sketches - as the Boomers missed that I vote they do a series of Mr Bean reactions - also I *cannot* wait for S3 reactions!!! In my mind S3 is the penultimate - Racism, Speed and humbled with 🇺🇸
