Tbh as someone who grew up watching some cartoons and anime in tv, I've never felt season 1 is anywhere close as bad as people portray. Sure it's cgi but everything else makes up for it and I prefer to think it's still better than reading the manga and it's success is what lead us to the production of the other seasons

That's so sad that this anime isn't popular because the animation in the second and especially all the first season were really really bad, but it's understandable: you watch an anime not only for the story, but for the animation, otherwise it isn't an anime.
