For the newcomers. Several tips, the food issue is not an issue haha there are literally stew pot almost everywhere. You can improve on the combat by literally just practicing. Its quite rewarding. The lockpick is not bad. Theres an option called simplifyed and its easier. Always always make sure the ball is bigger near the center of the lockpick. Trust me once it clicks it will make sense. This is coming from someone who hated it at first but then it clicked ❤ lastly the saving part is not bad either. You can literally sleep somewhere for an hr and the game saves.

Its because the game doesn't introduce the alchemy table to you early game. In my first playthrough, my first encounter with it was in Sasau (sp?). Also, horrible design making talk to NPC and pick pocket the same keybind. Almost rage quit a couple of times after having to reload a save an hour or so back because of the heavy handed save system + accidental pickpocket of an NPC.
@222tg_14 күн бұрын
The fuss about the schnapps is because in early years of the game it was way more challenging to get them. But now is easy. I kept getting them without even trying, never found myself in a "gotta go find schnapps" situation, not even once, in my 300h of game.

What I love the most about this game is the realism of the world. Not just the NPCs and their dynamic schedules but also the graphics and the design. It's not flashy or in your face, it doesn't feel like a videogame level, it doesn't feel like it was made for you to explore, it feels like a real medieval slice of territory and life, down to the single bushes. This does wonders to immersion for me.

I'm probably in the absolute minority when I say this but I _love_ KCD's lockpicking, _especially_ with a controller. I like the way it tries to emulate the manual dexterity and patience required for the actual task, coupled with the fact that you're often doing so within earshot of an NPC and it leads to some very tense moments.

As for the story and why it ended so openly without proper satisfaction and why is somekind humble for RPG game: Main creator - Daniel Vávra, wrote the whole - main story like 10 years ago, story is divided in Three Big Acts and original plan during Kickstarter campaign, was to release the whole thing, gradually divided into three parts - acts, with 8 months gaps from each other, which turned out to be very unfeasible for very small studio, so they decided to release only Act 1 as one game, which is KCD1 and then merge Act 2 and Act 3 into second bigger game , which is KCD2 (who is still clearly divided in to two acts with two maps), which finally properly ends Henry's story. Imagine whole thing to be like Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring, except that Two Towers and Return of the King wouldn't be released until 7 years later and as one big movie. Its not perfect solution, but is what it is. Act 1 has an own story arc, but it's still just the Henry's humble beginning of the much bigger story,. I can imagine that KCD1 and KCD2 together will tell unforgetable story and one of the best ever written.

To me KCD 1 is THE Immersive game, no other game in the last decade puts as much effort into immersing you into a living world, a world that genuinely lives on without you. As an example, the closest I can get to it is replaying Skyrim which is a multitude of levels below KCD, another would be Rimworld (which is another beast entirely). So the sequel should take over that mantle. It is interesting how often players talk about feeling like the world is alive in games, and how much they value immersion yet so few of them have played KCD 1, like dude that game is on a completely different level to anything else!

Regarding the ending you need to keep in mind KCD1 was always gonna be just ACT1. Dan Vavra has outlined the entire story and Warhorse has been very clear to the people who supported the game on Kickstarter that the first game is mostly setup and ACT 1 where Henry goes from a boy to a man and future games would continue the story. The ending is great, it is extremely well written and you really feel that Henry became a man throughout this journey and now he is about to open a next chapter where he goes from Man to Warrior.

Excellent observation about how KCD1 can 'derail' ones goals. Many times I'll plan to tackle a given quest which entails travelling quite a distance. I'll check my map (playing hardcore with the minimum of 2 selected debuffs) and I'll realise the best route involves some stretches through forested areas. I'll know from experience where bandits could be lurking and I'll consciously avoid roads and tracks in favour of checking the position of the Sun and dead-reckoning my way to my destination. However, I'll want to be prepared for possible combat and then I'll realise I'm out of Saviour Schnapps, so I'll need to make a beeline to the nearby alchemy bench, but darn it I'm out of Belladonna and Nettles, so I'll first need to do some herbalism, picking what I need north of Rattay. But crap, I'm carrying too much and cant bear to waddle to my horse everywhere so a trip to a miller to unload some gear I 'found' will be needed before that! Also, my quest involves convincing folk using speech and my current armour is dirty and my Henry likely stinks, so I'll ALSO need to goto the nearest bathhouse! Sheesh! I'm definitely not complaining! It's this richness of gameplay in its fictional world that I find so captivating about this game!

I adored it but that bug really discouraged me. A couple months ago I decided I wanna play it again in hopes the game was patched, which I’m sure it was. Being spoiled with PS5/Series X framerates though it was rough going back, and I stopped playing again. Last week I just decided to buy it on PC for the smooth 60+ FPS I’d get and I’m finally hitting my stride and able to fully enjoy this game. Man it’s so good and I can’t rave enough about it. Can’t wait to play KCD2, man.

Picked this up on Xbox in the winter sale for $3.99. Not sure if I'll be too frustrated with it or not, but looking forward to giving it a try.

I wish more games would handle difficulty the way that KCD does. Most games just put modifiers on damage.

Matty out here trying to get a KCD2 code lol. But in all seriousness, I am excited, buttttt rebirth launches like a week before so KCD2 will have to wait

The hardcore mode isn't that hard (hear me out), I've been doing my replay of it and it actually feels like the intended experience for the game. The negative perks you have to pick easily can be ignored or don't matter the further you get into the game and the idea of the reduction in the hood makes what the game is going for in even better. Like, in the base game the crosses and shrines you find along your journey you just ignore but in hardcore mode, you love it every time you find them. This results in so many unique interactions you have with the game like my original trip to Sasau when I kept getting lost and when I finally got there and saw it I felt like I accomplished something great etc. This is just one of the countless examples unique to the mode. The difficulty of the combat mostly stays the same, I really haven't noticed it being any harder and it is mostly about preparation etc.

thanks for this. I'll probably play hardcore as a first playthrough then. i know what you mean. in some games not playing hardcore difficulties feels like you're barely playing the game.

also, i really dislike open world games shoving detailed maps and geo location down your throat. IMO doing that is equivalent to cutting content from your game. Im currently playing Witcher 3 blind with a fantastic first person mod, and a mod that hides my location on the map. It's hard to describe how enjoyable it is to not know where the hell I am and navigate by the sun and landmarks!

The way I like to play the game is full immersion. If I travel, I’ll find a place to stay when it’s night time. Stay at the inn and maybe have drink if I need nourishment. Read a book before bed ect..

IMO, and I don't know if this was the original intent, the story of KCD1 was simply setting the stage for all the characters to exist in KCD2. It was also a play test for all the unique mechanics that the game employs.

For me KCD is an incredible achievement first and foremost as it's the guys first game.. has some quirks that can prove highly frustrating at times, but when it comes together it truly is remarkable and quite beautiful imo. For me it's always been a fairly solid 7.5 to 8.. which i feel is fair. Honestly can't wait for KDC2 as it looks to be closing in on a 9+ rating.

I played KCD a few months ago and felt guilty over how long it took me to pick up & play it. I used mods to remove some edges and was completely absorbed by the game. The nature in KCD is mind blowing, the streams made me remember walking barefoot in almost identical streams as a child looking for fish. I loved how the world made me respect it on varying levels. In one quest I was to report to a superior every update (not listed as a quest objective) of my investigation and I didn't and was rightly reprimanded because I had taken the whole ordeal into my own hands. Out of curiosity I reloaded a save and did the quest again only this time I kept the superior updated and was shocked to see the different ways things played out, nothing major but significant enough to make me want to pay attention to details of quests that in other games you can gloss over. Henry truly is weak and useless at the beginning and I'm not sure I've played a game that allows for such impactful and meaningful development of a character. I love this game and can't wait for KCD2.

Lockpicking is extremely easy with mouse and keyboard. My only obstacle was to get my lockpicking skill to lvl 15 to be able to pick every locks in the game. But once I got to lvl 15 locks are meaningless for my Henry. Which then made item prices meaningless since I could just buy every single items a shop has, then go lock pick their chest and steal back the money.

KCD has so much freedom to play the way you want except if you want to play in third person because that’s not how the devs want you to play. It is vital to the gameplay experience that you have a box over your head and can only see directly in front of you.

I have 2k hours in this game so, yeah, I'm pretty excited for KCD2. I completely disagree about the lockpicking being bad, it feels very realistic and rewarding. It's definitely a skill issue on your part and Henry's I'm afraid. Buy lessons, read skill books, practice, it's really not bad at all. It feels like you're actually picking a real lock based on how you have to move your thumbs with the thumbsticks and the rewards are immense and overpowered. Best lockpicking minigame ever, imo. This game has issues but lockpicking ain't one of them.

I'm playing KCD right now and just hearing the dialogue made me realise what we have lost in less than half a decade Here the lines seem to be written by some one with ample life experience and maturity who respects the player as someone with intelligence and patience who will enjoy games as an art form and expects games to have the same eloquence and quality in terms of writing as other written art forms Meanwhile I couldn't say the same for most current AAA RPG devs I am looking at you Bethesda and Bioware.. Stop hiring interns and kids to write your flagship games
