*Spoilers* The symbology of what Roxas said, after playing KH3, is even more painful. Roxas, though technically speaking is the other half of Sora, as Vanitas is Ventus' actual other half. Sora's frustration of not getting through to Vanitas is something that he, almost feels responsible for given that he can talk to Roxas. But Roxas isn't his dark half, just his half. So, maybe in some crazy way, yes, this could have been the other way around. But due to Sora's inherent, and often blinding good, it really does have to be Sora.

There's a good dark fanfic called "Twilight Will" in which he refuses to return to Sora. Sora is my favorite character... But I was very proud of Roxas for fighting to claim a future of his own design. Because that is how you know you're a living being. Any less, and you just happen to be a toy that breathes. And besides, a battle hardened soldier ? Forget emo Riku (yes, I'm aware I should have more empathy for him given what he went through), this is the dark badass opposite of the optimistic protagonist I wanna see.

Steviofo Roxas in this case was still within Sora. Roxas is Sora's Nobody. He takes on Ventus's appearance due to the presence of Ventus in Sora's heart. Roxas is trying to wake Sora up in this scene by showing him his hurt

Steviofo No. While Ven's heart was sleeping within Sora's, Ventus was never turned into a Heartless. Nobodies are created when a strong hearted person becomes a Heartless. Ven never turned into a Heartless, Roxas is Sora's Nobody, further proof of this because his name is Sora with an X in it. He takes on Ventus's appearance because of Ventus's presence within Sora's heart, but Roxas is Sora's Nobody.

Just going to point out Ventus can't have a heartless due to the fact his darkness was yanked out by Xehanort and it became Vanitus. If Vens heart goes and walks off though(and it did since it's in Sora) he falls into a slumber, just like Kairi and the other Princesses. And because a Princess of Heart/Ven have no heartless they can't have a Nobody either. Well expect for Kairi since her Heart was chilling inside Sora with Vens(Who'd be the reason she's blonde), and when Sora turned himself into a Heartless it created TWO NOBODIES, Roxas and Namine. Roxas = Born from Sora with Vens heart. I'd argue that Roxas had Vens heart during 358/2 and the KH2 Intro as well due to the simple fact he can dual wield and then Sora does as well during KH2(I'd say the trauma of Roxas loosing Xion caused Ven to start waking up, hence Roxas only dual wielding after she vanishes and Sora only dual wielding in KH2 and not KH1). Also Heartless should be called Nobodies since they have no body, and Nobodies should be called Heartless since they have no heart >:I

When Roxas heard that he could sacrifice himself to save another he fought against it while Sora won't hesitate for an instant to save a life. Roxas looks up to Sora so much. Sora is literally the version of himself who can make the decisions Roxas wishes he could.

I mean Roxas’ life was never about saving someone. He was told he is a Nobody and his job is to collect Hearts so all Nobodies could be whole. Unlike Sora who is told he is the Keyblade wielder who would save the world, Roxas never had that responsibility. That’s why Roxas’ purposes is to be his own person and just be happy with friends. They have no family nor friends to go to, but they do have a place they’d like to be. So I like his purposes in life which is just so pure.

@@Bleezyyyys Terra and Aqua were never too far away despite the circumstances. Same with Mickey Donald, Goofy, and Yen Sid. Heck even Sora when he saved him established a connection that was always there no matter what. Everything got taken from Roxas and he was told that he has no right to exist. That he was a "mere tool at best" who had to return to "where he belongs". No beach, no sunsets at the tower, no fulfillment of his true potential, no friends. Ventus always had lights waiting to help him. The only light Roxas had and lucky him was Sora. Most people would have moved on after being whole again but Sora knew that Roxas was more than a copy of himself.

I mean, getting Roxas was the objective for the first chunk of the game and that one scene in SanFranTokyo shows how Roxas has been an important connection to Sora, and Re:Mind when they are in each other's thoughts being how Roxas got to the Keyblade graveyard. Notice that when Roxas appears at the beginning of the scene, Sora is wearing his signature KH2 outfit. However, after Roxas disappears, Sora is back to the X-marked outfit he wore throughout the game. I think that's Roxas trying to lend Sora a hand with his situation.

Roxas had contempt for Sora at first because his existence revolved around him and felt Sora was taking everything away from him when it was really DiZ, and the Organization who played all the games with Roxas. Once he finally met Sora, Roxas realized that Sora is nothing like that and wasn't responsible for everything that happened to him and losing his existence. If anything Sora was just as if not more confused about the whole thing but still only saw Roxas as a person who has a right to life, strength and happines. This connection saw them through the events of KH3 and Roxas returning to the realm of light where he belongs.

This scene is incredibly brilliant in two ways. One of lays out the two definitions of self that Kingdom Hearts has explored. Both are true, “You’re me, so you can feel what I felt.” “No, Roxas you’re you… you deserve as much as I do to be your own person.” And then the fact that ROXAS is the one making the case for the collective sense of self, Mr. “I am me, nobody else.” And SORA is the one arguing that Roxas is a separate self. It’s a fantastic summary of Kingdom Hearts exploration of Self.

I think what gets me the most about this scene is how utterly broken Sora becomes once Roxas' memories become his own. He shudders, twitches his eyes, sighs brokenly as if he's about to cry. This is a new perspective he wasn't able to see in 2, and he understandably does not know how to react. And when he does react, he's still confused: "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SEE???"

Roxas is hands down my favorite character of the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise. I really hope they find a way to separate Roxas from Sora at some point so he really can be his own person. My poor baby deserves it damn it!

Beliving that his sole existence was just to destroy this world, and here comes Sora sweet innocent Sora. Sora the boy who gladly took the pain of a boy several hundred years old. Who saw his friends disapear infront of him and decided to help without question. essentially told him no your existence matters

Actually, I'm pretty sure that this pushed Sora to believe, even harder, that Roxas deserves to be his own person, therefore will try to bring him back... At least that the way things seem to be going.

However his simple nature of wanting everyone to be happy is what i think makes him a good protagonist. It may be childish, ridiculous or even hypocritical how he thinks, but thats fine.

The notes in Days reveal to us Kingdom Hearts was more than willing to power Roxas. All he had to do was ask. If Roxas had held on just a little longer inside Sora, if he had bidden his time 'til he could take control of him...He might have obtained it.

It's important to not forget that life isn't all about being serious, the bounds and connections Sora made with other people are what makes him strong, and it's becauese of that that he made it as far as he did... I personally like Sora alot more then Roxas, Sora has a child like tenderness that a game like Kingdom Hearts really needs, Roxas just feels like a generic Shonen protagonist... Sora had to dive deep into the darkness. Only then could he actually drag those that have already fallen out of it. That was the real purpose of DDD. Only this way could sora connect with Xion.
