Apparently, Auron is one of the few FF characters who retains much of his original source's material in the KH franchise. Every other FF character is reimagined or slightly altered in some way.

I like to imagine that everything in KH2 is what happens in the brief time Auron is dead prior to FFX. He seems much younger, the memories you hear from the statue are specifically from his time with Jecht and Braska, and he still clearly feels personally responsible for what happened. When he disappears during the credits, he’s returning to Spira as an Unsent to go find Tidus.

All the casts from the Final Fantasy's from VI, VII, IX and X (except for Auron) they are all Variants from the real versions that we all know and love. Auron is from the past prior to the real FFX, Squall "Leon" Leonhart is after the main events of FFVIII and Zack from Crisis Core FFVII is probably very before the whole FFVII franchise even begin and Zack was just a rookie soldier.

When you play KH2 before FFX you'd never guess what Auron being a guardian means or the keyblade "Guardian Angel" didn't know until I started my first FFX playthrough recently and still learning of more as im progressing half way in the game. Auron's unapologetically dry and cynical sense of humor alone makes him S tier character material for me. That "No wonder no one wants to die" line wasn't even overwhelmingly clever or thought provokingly funny. It's the subtle use of attitude in the way he says it that makes it so funny. Furthermore, when I first played KH2 (I was 12 at the time) I had no idea about Ronin Samurai culture and how Auron keeping is left arm tied in a sling fastened from his coat was an intentional nod to it. I thought he was sword fighting one handed because he had a broken arm. In retrospect I must've just really not been paying very close attention because it took until I actually played FFX that I realized he actually did use his non-dominant arm in his sword swings. But the very thought of a character so badass that he was willing to throw down with supernatural forces with a sword the size of a fuckin bullet train (I intentionally exaggerate that, of course) and use a single arm to do it instantly solidified Auron as one of my favorite fictional swordsmen when I was a kid.

This just doesn't work. A serious character like Auron with serious backgrounds doesn't work when childish Disney is here and can't talk about more dark things. He can't even mention anything about death really, even though his character and Spira are centered around death themes. He just feels too restricted in this.

I highly agree with everything you said but to be fair he did had few lines and he was still pretty much the same auron that every fan knows and love

He's the only character that doesn't get bucherd like Tidus,cloud, Yuna's group and the others. It's kinda out of place where his character is not modified like the others. Really Kingdom Hearts is a preteen Introduction to somewhat mature final fantasy storylines, but waters it down by using meaningless nonsense that only worsens after kingdom hearts 2.

@@Devil_Slayer that's what happens when you get an artistic director to tell a story with characters he knows nothing about personality wise. Namoura is an amazing Artist but as a story director he doesn't seem to do a good job. Placing well developed and we'll respected characters into weird positions, changing their designs in which they make them more silly, remove their established character traits, Setting up major plot elements to early and half-assed explanations later with boring exposition duologue that's so bad he forgot to add the final fantasy rep for the third game and had to make Kingdom Hearts his Final Fantasy Versus XIII project and which I cannot take seriously as I don't know why it was named that. As much as I'm backtalking Kingdom Hearts it does something's right but I think it should've had experienced writers to make a better and less conflfuted story thats more unnecessary complicated then any Final Fantasy story.
