As for the Alice platform, it was cut because Alice wasn't actually a sleeping princess at that time. Alice was the first one drawn and was supposed to be a major part. The design document is weird for my friend and I because while some parts ARE real, there are other parts that don't match the time it was made. The design document is supposed to be super early in development, so having finalized designs on the same page doesn't make too much sense. It feels as if someone found pages of it, and sorry of filled in the blanks, if that makes sense.

Yup that would make sense as to why it’s cut! Interesting, I was wondering this in regards to the in-game images. The document has the finalised design of Sora yet the in-game model is his first concept design. I assumed that at the time his updated look wasn’t modelled but with what you’re saying that could make sense of it. Thanks for sharing brother 💚

Most of the time GDD's are meant to be continuously updated as the game goes on. If you were to have to present the game again and the direction changed or you have new elements that have been designed, the GDD has to be updated. Since it is in english I assume it was late in development that this was made, probably to show to Disney. The screenshots, even though they represent a "late in development" view of the game was probably when they were still deciding on how to finish off some assets and maybe they had the initial design but it was requested by disney for a redisign for the presentation (that resulting in the finalized designs but the non-final in-game models). I've worked in some projects where when we build a GDD we might have screenshots that don't match the concept art but usually we disclose which design is final in some way.

In all my years of playing KH1, never have I ever put it together that the Stations of Awakening in the tutorial were those specific princesses because they had fallen asleep. Yet again, KH1 continues to surprise me years later.

I wish Sora's outfit changed every time he went to a world. The whole fitting in rule only seems to come into play whenever it feels like it, especially since he hardly blends in with any of the worlds he goes to.

One of the biggest pieces of cut content I've ever wanted to actually see in a KH game is the King/Kentauros boss fights that were supposed to be part of the final Xemnas gauntlet fights at the end of KH2. I swear to God I had a dream about that fight at least a year before KH2 ever even released, and ever since I learned about that concept art I've been thinking that I must have tapped into an alternate timeline where that idea actually got put into the game.

Well they say dreams are gateways into alternate dimensions and timelines. So would make sense if it was. I've had strange dreams too about Kingdom Hearts that have happened in some form or another as well. Like before kh 3 came out, I actually had a dream about Aqua going back to the realm of darkness because Yen Sid suggested it, and she went to the Dark Margin, took a boat across it, and encountered these Disney like black and white cartoon fish enemies. Then at least part of it happened in Re:Mind with Aqua going back with her friends, and I was like no way. 😶

One night in 2003 I dreamt I was using the Metal Chocobo Keyblade to fight the Heartless at Memory's Skyscraper and I hadn't even seen the secret ending yet at that point, I was fighting various different KH1 Heartless before anything about Kingdom Hearts 2 had even been announced.

Just to letcha know, the orange and black outfit was actually just an early modelled outfit to test the model in the engine! It wasn't textured or anything, just slapped in so they could test!

All of this was super fascinating! Especially with Destiny Islands! I personally would love to have an expanded version of Destiny Islands where you could explore the mainland, as we see so little of it in KH2. As for the playground island, as I want to call it, I would have also preferred to have in the game what they had in their conceptualizations. I think it would have vastly fleshed the island out more, and made it more interesting. With the finished product, there was just a lot of lost opportunities with Destiny Islands that they gave up on. I'm sitting here like, "Come on, Nomura-san, give me a more detailed Destiny Islands!"

In the concept phases, I feel like Kairi was potentially Sora’s Mother at some point. She looks older and seems like she’s more of a caretaker of Sora, and occasionally Riku. I think that would’ve been cool.

Back then being a keyblade wielder is something really special, but now everyone can wield it as long as the writer want it. And I'm not saying that is a bad idea, in fact Roxas and Xion are both my favorite in the series. But I like to see other characters built different rather than "Here comes another keyblade wielder". The problem with Kairi is she was supposed to be a damsel in distress, she is a princess of heart. Now they don't know what to do with her, just throw her a keyblade and tell her "go become a keyblade master". Even in her own spinoff game, I was expecting to see the whole KH story under her perspective, but no, she's just retelling every events with Sora's memories. *Spoiler* And then what, still get left behind by Riku while the boys will having fun in KH4. At that point I just want to tell her "Girl, stop following Sora's footsteps, go live your own live. I know you love him but your writer's suck, and after KH2 they can't even write you a proper character development story"

Would’ve been really nice to see some of the concepts from destiny island make the cut. Kairi cooking and cleaning and being kind of motherly would’ve given her way more character development from the start. The gang eating together and kairi throwing a heartless out of the house seems like great comic relief. Reminds me of chichi from dbz. Same goes for sora and riku eating all the food like saiyans.

with the first one, the fact that while Nomura got his wish for a Toy Story world makes me happy I'm just disappointed that 3 was a majority Pixar, I get it's easier to put already 3d characters into a 3d game but that is what I loved about 1 and 2 is the effort put into making the traditionally 2d Disney characters look natural in 3d, at the very least they could have given us a Princess and the Frog world, at least as a send off for that style since Disney has pretty much abandoned their 2d animated movies

Unpopular opening but I wish they did make Ross look like that cuz what's the problem with him looking like Sora when he's his nobody in the first place. He doesn't have his own look he just looks like Ventus. Him having that old look with the outfit and hair color he has in his final would've been way better to differentiate between them. He even has his own little touches of Ven in that old look to show his heart was with him with the hair tufts on the side, of course other than him being blonde.

This is a super inspirational video. Now I kind of wish I had the skills and equipment to make everything shown in the video become realized as a sort of other Kingdom Hearts universe (multiverse) fan game. Say Sora is the hybrid and all the blending in disguises are in his human form so instead of Destiny Islands being his original and the starting world, Destiny Islands comes along later with Sora starting in a different home world of hybrids.

Always wondered what Roxas would have been if it wasn't for Ventus. Could've been a lot cooler IMO. Vanitas doesn't do the role enough justice and Roxas just takes away from Ven's originality. Although the way Sora and Ventus's counter parts differ in terms of being I guess it is pretty awesome that there are two accidental unrelated/related clones of them both (Roxas & Vanitas).

I'd love to see that expansion of Destiny Islands and the Trio's interactions in a anime-cartoon hybrid series. Mix it in with elements of the Manga & novels and it could be a real blast to watch. I'd also love to see early Twilight Town return as maybe Topiary Town. I love the topiary-looking building & structures with the reflective water below. The sunset lighting also gives it a mysterious & eerie vibe that I'm all for - something like a sinister secret beneath a supposedly friendly surface. It just really gets ideas flowing

I want to explore this gothic style Traverse Town and Daytime world that never was and Art Deco Anime New York. 6:13 Perhaps this is Woody's world, and the Toy Story worlds wouldn't be the actual toys. The world building was in its early concepts, and while now it might not seem so out of place going to a world like the weirdly realistic pirates or putting Trons world in Ansem's computer, early concepts might have cared about making each world more uniform and cohesive with the others, and they didn't see fit to have Sora become a toy in a world where he otherwise would have interacted with normal suburban humans. 10:40 No, I think your first instinct is right, but the town reflected in the water is different. Remember that there are two Twilight Towns, we know them as Data and Real Twilight Town, but functionally they are Roxas's and Sora's Twilight towns. Its possible that early on they knew they'd have both characters visit two versions of the same world, but perhaps they toyed with the idea of the towns having much more prominent differences. 15:17 These Kairi concepts seem to flip between Kairi being older/more mature or younger/more dependent than the others, its hard to get a read. But I'm not sure if I like the motherly vibes and ultimately I think they wanted her to be on the same maturity level as the others to keep the child like wistfulness of the group maintained until they're separated. 16:51 Hes tossing a Keyblade my dude, which implies that they both have keyblades in this scene. Now I assume that this concept had little to no bearing on the narrative at this point, but maybe they'd have given us a hint of Riku with his Keyblade on Destiny Island before he follows Xehanorts call and Sora proves himself more worthy of it. I think overall, the reason why some of these concepts look so goofy and cartoony compared to the final product is that this is early brainstorming work and everyone on staff likely jumped on kid friendly angles. Either Nomura, the current Square lead, or Disney later reinforced that the Final Fantasy half of the concept had to hit harder, the story get a little more serious. Those thumbs of the trio don't necessarily seem out of character, they're just exaggerated the same way you'd see in a Saturday morning TV show, and now we're all to used to the weird mix of mild heartwarming goof and ff style melodrama the series is known for.

From those pictures of Destiny Islands, it looks like the Paopu Tree was originally placed underneath the treehouses inside that cavern. @15:35 We can see fruit on it in the picture. @18:53 And Sora and Kairi I think were holding the fruit in one of the pictures shown. By the way, I mention this because the Paopu relates to the fruit of the tree in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1-3), hence why Kairi is the one holding it in the picture and why they look possibly even upset in the subsequent picture.

If you look at the picture of beta Sora in Halloween Town I see a bit of blue on his jacket. Which makes me wonder if the jacket was blue and black or just dark blue or something and it's hard to see because of how low quality the images are. Honestly would love a mod or something where someone tries to recreate beta soras model from concept art and the color palette we see in those images, and then put it in the game to sort of give us a peek at what things may have been like. Heck it'd be cool to put a recreation of the Alice pillar over one of the others in dive to the heart then try to do a copy of that beta image lol

It seems in early concepts Sora, Kairi and Riku were going to be traveling together and..... Not gonna lie, I would've wanted that more then what we got.

Yeah, it could have given them equal character development. Shame really... it feels like Nomura's trying to make up for Riku and Kairi time now with Sora in stasis, but it feels kinda late for that tbh.

Does anybody else wish you could've actually used the Gumi Phone outside of Journal, Photo and Menu options? I feel like it was a missed opportunity to hear some cool quotes and for Sora to actually call people like Kairi to check up on her while she was training, like even in the base Kingdom Hearts 3 game where Final Fantasy characters weren't seen or heard you could've still heard their voices or seen posts from them in game, if they got annoying however you had the option to toggle it off.

@@johnpantag472 Shortsighted thinking since the game influences friendship and connections they all have them so why not use them. I suppose the plot gets in the way but it still would have been cool for Sora to at least call Kairi or the Twilight Town crew

You'll know when Kingdom Hearts 4 come out and a remake of the Union Cross and the other games the dark Road maybe they will bring them out before Kingdom Hearts 4 that's why I hope for

when you look at the concept art for disney castle you can see theres a coliseum and boat so i think maybe originally they had it planned thatd all the disney characters would of been in a single world with multiple places to visit the portal all the stars are coming from or going to also reminds me of the end of the world so maybe that was originally planned to be the root cause of all the heartless spliting disney apart the castle is design even reminds me alot of hollow bastion with the broken platforms

Speaking of heartless being defeated by the Keyblade....anyone notice how weird it is the ONLY time heartless couldn't be hurt, was when Sora held a wooden sword....does his Keyblade have proximity ability or what? Because everyone else without a Keyblade can throw hands with a heartless, but not Sora for some reason...

We also see in II and 358 Squall, Yuffie, Tifa, Cloud, the Organization (those who don't have keyblades like Roxas and Xion) and Sephiroth go ham on Heartless too

@Aozora Haou exactly, Yuffie uses her bare hands on heartless. Not only that, but we see Roxas ALSO use a STICK and it can damage heartless, even a little bit, yet Sora can't with a wooden SWORD....it's so confusing
