Gotta send lots of love to this game and Team ASOBI. We didn't do this enough before they shut down Japan Studio and whatever other studio they closed down. Also, probably' didn't show enough love to the platformers of way back when, so we lost them too. Mainly thinking about LBP, Gravity Rush, and inFAMOUS since those are the most recent ones, but all the Jak and Daxter fans, and the Sly Cooper fans, those matter too. I'm sure all of us grew up with Playstation, and maybe we are glad that Playstation grew up with us and didn't just give us "kids games" this whole time; it's nice that they gave us more mature games as we went along. But as we grew, we ourselves had kids, and we want our kids to experience the joy of those "kids games," those platformers, and maybe we miss them for ourselves even though we're adults now. #BringBackTheClassics

5:25 the reasoning behind donald and goofy not being in smash is entirely on nintendo, Sakurai stated MANY times that he wouldn't allow any characters that aren't originally from a video game to get into smash in any capacity. He has been super strict on this and allegedly didn't even want the mickey emblem to appear on the kingdom key.

It undoubtedly has something to do with the fact that Square is done with exclusivity by their own admission. They were very upset by FF16’s and FF7 Rebirth’s rather disappointing sales on PS5. I know that a cameo in Astro Bot wouldn’t be considered “exclusivity” but these Japanese companies are VERY strict about any decision they make

Those two must have been a part of the handful that the devs were talking about. There were a few characters that they couldn't secure for the game. It's just the execs at SqaureEnix not understanding the significance of the cameos in relation to Playstation's history and not caring about the fans. If Square was run by people passionate about gaming, they would have allowed the cameos no problem.

Disney characters not appearing in Smash is more so due to them not representing video games, which unless there's some random Spirit that goes against what Sakurai said, is something Smash is adamant about. It's the primary reason characters like Goku weren't considered, while you can still have a toy be playable since R.O.B. existed for video games.

Thats why Soul calibur 2 got Heihachi and Tekken 7 got Noctis because they couldnt afford FF7 characters. It’s all free advertising, and the best kind, family friendly. And in a game that was highly likely (which turned out to be true) to be highly rated given Playroom’s reception. This wasn’t an untested IP. In a nostalgia celebration like AstroBot it also makes the consumer feel as if these are legendary characters in gaming history, elevating them even if they don’t know it. Like I actually went seeking some of the more obscure IP’s referenced because I assumed if they were in this game they had some kind of status. If Square said no to this or asked too much it is a major ball drop as Sony were offering free publicity at no cost.

It is sad to Admit but Square right now is directed by a bunch of money grabbing sharks trying to milk us with thier damn mobile games, no love, no effort for theier diamond series. Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Nier, all published on mobile is just sad

The complete lack of Square in general really feels strange to me. I was hoping to see Parasite Eve and Xenogears potentially represented as well as Kingdom Hearts and FFVII. Even Gex’s absence I assume is only due to Square owning the rights to his IP and not wanting to deal with Sony for this game.

Companies being weirdly stingy and overprotective with their IPs is so strange to me, especially when it's a harmless cameo. Like, thinking that your character(s) having a cameo in a celebratory game that's clearly made with love and* currently doing numbers as "pointless" is just.... weird. At the end of the day, they own it, they can do what they want, but fumbling on harmless promotion for your characters especially when your company isn't currently doing so hot is, again, weird.

It's because Square Enix is very difficult when it comes to cross overs. People often assume that Disney is what kept Sora from coming to Smash for ages but it was actually Squeenix because they didn't know how to make it canon or some nonsense like that... Disney isn't going to pass up the opportunity to make easy $$$ lol

Bad news, everybody. Neither Kingdom Hearts 4 nor Missing Link will be at Tokyo Game Show this year. Square Enix has already released their lineup. 😢😢😢
