Xemnas's fight was so good in KH1. It gave the feeling that he was just toying with you. Throughout the fight, even through his insanely graceful twirls, he looked so relaxed, as if he had all the time in the world.

@@redictor The funny thing is in Kingdom hearts 2, before we knew about final mix outside of Japan, there was one cutscene right after Sora wakes up you can see a part with all the other memores of Sora where Sora is fighting the Unknown and deflecting the energy blast before the fight begins. This was in the English version of Kingdom Hearts 2 as well.

The most terrified thing about this boss fight is the fact you have even the game mechanics against you. Xemnas acts exactly like he acts in KH2 while Sora at this point is still a novice,he lacks the discipline and the abilities he has in KH2. He's clunky and slow. This is something that Kingdom Hearts would never be able to repeat again,as even though characters like Young Xehanort move even faster that Xemnas,Ventus,Terra and Aqua are able to fight toe to toe against the time traveller version of Master Xehanort with preparation. Here it doesn't matter how much you try to prepare to this fight,Xemnas would always move faster that Sora and the player can act in KH1.

@@dragonmist9963 The Unknown figure/Xemnas was added in the Final Mix version of the game, 9 months after the originals Japanese release. Final Mix was exclusive only to Japan, and wouldn't be released in the west until 11 year later. Due to this, Kingdom Hearts 2 in the west had a plot hole as the cutscene where Sora fights Xemnas is present during the prologue, despite being absent in the original version of the game. You have no idea how stumped and confused I was when I first saw this during Roxas's restoration sequence, thinking that I missed an important part of the previous game when it only existed in the "updated" version. I'm still bitter about the Final Mixes even to this day for having to wait years for an official release of these versions.

It's such a well designed fight, and it's one of the defining moments for the power scaling of the series. After beating KH1 - and before KH2 released - I scoured the web for a copy of Final Mix and came up short, and ended up ordering it from a seller that was gonna take 2 months to get it to me, which would be after KH2 hit. Since I'd already purchased it, I justified downloading a copy of it with a translation patch and burning it/setting up my PS2 to play it. When I got to this fight, I was super hype. Something new I'd never seen, a character that seemed to completely trump every other challenge in the game. Took me the better part of a day to actually manage to beat him. This song was cemented in my memory. When KH2 hit, and I got to the latter half of TWTNW, the first fight with Xemnas kicked off, and this song started playing? Dear christ, the "go mode" switch in my head clicked, and it was one of the most insanely memorable boss fights I've ever played. That's how you make a player feel like their character progressed - Make their character barely scrape by, and then way later, have them absolutely rip the boss apart on a later encounter. It felt so satisfying.

@LeeEverett1 The only song I think is a very strict improvement is the Assault on the Dreadnaught theme, the symphonic swells at the chorus section feel more epic in .5 than the original, other than that I agree with you completely. A lot of the .5 versions lack the bass and fusion of synths/techno drumming that the original had, which I think is Yoko's signature. The fusion of those electronic drums and bass on top of symphony is what makes KH music for me, and the majority of .5 versions are too soft and calm compared to the higher octane originals.

Its because the games reflect timeline differences. Terras lingering spirit (Enigmatic Soldier) was much further down the timeline than when he first manifested in BBS, so his skills had grown in reflection of the passing time. Thats why hes stronger in KH2 than he was in BBS. The same way Xemnas is way harder in KH1, even though he has the same skills (he just uses them differently), because Sora is far stronger in KH2 than in KH1, making the same opponent seem "weaker" when faced again.

It actually doesn’t break the continuity, rather it explains why some things in later games (primarily KH2) are the way they are. It was through this fight where Xemnas got Sora’s data so Vexen could make Xion, and it’s also why Xaldin goes after Beast in Kingdom Hearts 2 because Beast can be here during this fight. It also, more obviously, explains why Xemnas knows Sora in later games.

The most nightmare fuel of this fight is the fact you are clearly not ready for this. KH1's combat wasn't design for a KH2 boss fight,this is something the franchise wasn't able to repeat as all games after 2,both Sora and the player has the speed necessary to deal with the enemy. Even Young Xehanort,with practice,isn't that hard. In KH1 you don't had that speed,you are at the mercy of the enemy.

nope it was YX. he can use both ethernal blades and a keyblade. (both of which had the same color) plus when he resets time, he summons clones who have teh same ethernal blades. the fact they have the same theme is a dead giveaway

He was so much easier to fight in KH2. I wonder if it's because during his first encounter he didn't have all of the special powers he achieved in KH2 and he had no experience fighting nobodies.
