I don't know why they couldn't have let him on. Donald just says no because he said so; he doesn't even give a believable reason as to why he didn't let Riku join them. And considering that Riku easily joins Maleficent when she gives him an obvious lie that can be disapproved of no problem, you can see that the rivalry tension between Sora and Riku in this game needs a bit more work for it to make sense.

Just imagine how confused Kairi must be ^^;; She goes to her island to investigate a storm, and little black creatures literally tear out her soul, and the last thing she remembers is seeing Sora walk into a cave. Then she wakes up, several weeks later, to see Sora explode into balls of light while a giant, bipedal duck screams for him, and the glowing spirit of her other friend stops a tall dark man from attacking her. She then runs away from the dark creatures that attacked her on the island, and hugs one of them, who immediately blows up into light, and appears as Sora again.

Some moments transcend gaming. Some moments can reach us on such a deep level that you don't quite understand it. That's what I feel about this moment 04:32:28 It is such a beautiful scene, it always gets me nostalgic for great times that I have lived through with friends and family. As much as fans would enjoy that scene to be about romantic love between Kairi and Sora, I think it's really more about friendship. It certainly has strands of romance for sure, at least for me, it's about the unbreakable bond between friends. The scene was great with "Simple and Clean" but we had to remove it for copyright reasons. But truly, I believe that by some random luck, adding Kyle Landry and Josh Chiu's version of "Passion" makes this scene even better (if that's possible). Cutting together game movies isn't a glamorous business: we are simply the middle men to greater and much more talented story tellers. But when song and visuals come together so beautifully, I can't help but to feel grateful for being able to partake, in some way, with this wonderful industry. Kath Soucie's voice work as Sora's mother was my favorite part of this already amazing game. The way she announces 'dinner's ready' perfectly captures the moment and reminds me of something my own mother would say, when dinner is ready. The second time she says 'Sora?' just brings chills to my spine, because you can just hear the sudden shift in tone to pure angst and desperation as soon as she realizes her boy fled off, and might be about to go on some epic adventure with a strange dog and duck, fighting heart-stealing creatures and an evil senior with multiple bodies. I know my mum would be terrified at the thought of that. 10/10

No, the weapons you choose and give up only affect Sora's stats and the order he learns different abilities. What affects your level up speed is how you answer Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie's questions. Picking mostly top answers levels you up the quickest; picking mostly bottom answers levels you up the slowest. By the way I personally think the staff is overall the strongest weapon choice. Early game is tough because the extra 1 MP is useless until the end of Traverse Town and you're forced to sacrifice one of your physical stats, but the staff gives you tons of powerful and useful abilities (MP Haste/Rage, Critical Plus, Counterattack, Scan, etc.) much earlier than the other weapons, and you have more AP to spend on them.

I like stories that are complex and have enough evidence to make sense when you look back on them. But confusing stories where things happen for seemingly no reason and not much gets explained is frustrating. I'm not saying that it has to be for adults only, but I'm saying that it shouldn't be all flimsy just to be fun for kids because kids are much smarter than given credit for. I bet kids would criticize the time travel in DDD or the pacing issues in KH3 no problem.

@@ifeel_flat yes it's fun to make theories to try and answer a mystery in the series, but some of the mysteries (especially the black box in Union X) are poorly handled. The mysteries don't work properly; they just point out it exists and then keep reminding you of it, but they don't give enough hints as to what possible answer it could be. I like it when Kingdom Hearts can go deep and do complex things, but it can do so much better and it pains me when it fails to see that potential.
