This part of the game is so damn well done. The name of the level, itself, Hollow Bastion. The music. The design. Everything is telling the player that this place is dangerous and something terrible is about to happen. The vibe completely changes from one of slightly cartoonish anime fun to very dire seriousness. Your objective is finally before you. And as you go deeper you can't shake the ominous feeling that there's no going back after what happens here.

This music is a resounding success. When I first came to this world and heard the music, I (Sora) stood still for the first few minutes of the song playing. I set down the controller and simply listened to the music play. I was interested in the storyline, especially at this particular climax of the storyline, but the music captured me even more than anything that the developers could dream up. I would argue that producing music that is more attractive than the game itself is no easy feat in general, and with a game as amazing as Kingdom Hearts it seems impossible. But this soundtrack is beauty.

This is my favorite world in KH1 (and probably in the whole series). Music matches the atmosphere perfectly and all of the scenery shows that the castle was abandoned for a long time and now it belongs to darkness. I could literally feel the darkness in that castle unlike in KH2 where I didn't really feel the darkness in the Organization's 13 stronghold. I really wished that it would remain like this even after Sora sealed the keyhole. So that made me a bit disappointed when I first visited Hollow Bastion in KH2 and found out that it is different now and there won't be a good old Hollow Bastion with a great music anymore(

I think one of the things that made it so creepy was how it was a completely new and original world coming after you had just played through so many relateable Disney worlds. Even traverse town is pretty friendly up until this point in the game. Its a completely foreign landscape with maze-like elements, new difficult enemies, and for the first half of it Sora is all alone! Creepy indeed.

Just playing kh1 through for the second time (on expert though) and wehn i got to hollow bastion and heard the music, the nostalgia, and the kicks got me so pumped up! One of the best soundtracks in the game af all time! Final Fantasy VII and VIII too! Gotta love it!

I was more oddly fascinated. Even through it was perhaps the scariest place in the game it still became my second favorite place to be(second to Olympus Colosseum of course.) It is also the source of my greatest nostalgia kick ever. As we all know Hollow Bastion was a quite linear level, you solved a puzzle to advance and get higher in the castle. And one day I booted up my old KH and just walked around Hollow Bastion, remembering every puzzle and how they were solved.

Last time I played through KH, I levelled up Sora's MP bar as much as possible. I think I had gravitas when I entered Hollow Bastion for the first time then. I was able to beat all enemies with one hit of Gravitas just not the Defendor. I had to use gravitas and fira two times. It was worth it lol. Why I did that? All the times I played KH before then I hated having to leave everything to the beast. He's super overpowered by the way, look at his maximum attack stats, that's mind blowing lol.
