I´ve been living in Riyadh some years ago and I love the Kingdom Shopping Mall. I had fun with my family and more fun with my girlfriends at the third floor! ;-) I got my own perfume from there, it was create under my decisitions to mixing the essences, and the final product was called: SABAYAH (virtuous woman). I love it! Good times to remember. Riyadh is a nice city to live.

I can't agree more, I always respected the way Saudis live as a society, I don't have the right to judge as a foreigner, but as a Muslim I just want the best for this country, I do believe that rising youth is making a difference there, and the day will come when the world will see the real Saudis, God Bless

You are right. However, The word AL-Mamlakat or Al-Mamlakah(both writing are correct) is a translating from English language to Arabic which means the Kingdom, which is a corporation company that is majorly owned by Prince Waleed bin Talal. Both names in Arabic and English are well recognized in Saudi Arabia. Hope I made this info clear enough. :D

i agree with afkam. But hidden videos take place alot. They all have ababays but heads are not covered. That is actually not too rare. Its quite common in saudi.

lived in saudia for 13 years. i was born there and its pimpin. Yes i have 2 maids and yes i have a driver. my dad works at KFSH (saudias should know) I live about 50 yards from the kingdom tower. Litterally across the street. Im not allowed to go into the mall (security doesnt allow singles) But me and my friend sneak in all the time and go for some Starbucks :D super expensive 13riyals(TALL)

well, both of you (CivilLizard & Saaaaarah) got my message in a wrong way, i admit, saudi arabia have a big influence on our lives, it's the face of the arab world, it taught me alot, and i won't trade those years with anything, I only wish that people have more freedom there to express themselves, with it saudi could be the greatest country on earth!!!

one of my very good friends owns a home in saudi arabia that can easily beworth ten million here.15,000 sq ft.indoor and outdoor pools.12 bedrooms. 10 person theatre. his kitchen is damn near the size of a restaurant. i dint want to come home i swear!!! the saudi's are livin large.

ok i may not have the indepth knowledge of your culture but i lived there for years observing, and living under the brutish boot. also i had many muslim friends (and a few suadis at that) so i know enough to have a valid opinion

Dear Adria20 they don't dress up for themselves I read in the the book Princess:A True Story Of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia that the women dress to show at praties to other women to show them how rich they are. It is also true where I live too the arab wear the black abaayas in public but at a all women party you will be amazed at the beautiful and expensive designer outfits in all type of styles they are wearing under those black gards.trust me I know my in-laws are arabs.

The fact is in a free society you should be able to wear whatever you like without fear of persecution from the state....you shouldnt have to feel uncomfortable wearing regular clothes puplically. If you feel its easier just to comply with social norms and this is why you use it, then this is a problem with the society and not a 'conveniance' for you

@onemin1986 They can wear these clothes in family gatherings etc.. But only women and mahrams [father, grandfather, brother, uncles, and husband] Muslims believe in modesty so when Muslim women go out they cover. Hope that helped.

you dont have to pretend your muslim. I'm a muslim and I live here but i'm not a muslim ARAB, i'm a muslim AMERICAN. So anywho, you can take pictures but people dont really like being in pictures. I dont wear a headscarf and I'm 13, so they dont FORCE you but if you do go out in public without an abaya you will get funny looks and some freaky people will get all pissed and stuff so everyone basically wears an abaya but not everyone wears a headscarf.

Ok youve travelled, so have i, so what. Just because you've been to other countries doesnt mean you've opened your mind to the possibility of fault within your own culture/religion The fact that i was a teen whilst there had very little bearing on my opinions on the abaya (ie. my mum, and every other female i knew didnt exactly enjoy it either).- 'nothing any bodey could say or do would change that' this just shows how closed your mind is to other ideas when your are raised as a muslim.
