Films set in the Middle Ages rarely do well at the box office (unless they are fantasy). The Crusades are a tough subject too. The highest-grossing medieval non-fantasy movie is still Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, from 1991, and that was based on a famous legend.

@@squamish4244 oh there is missing some message. I suppose it's about preference too but why people have that kind of preference? I think it is that beacause it's about religion (in that case Christian and Islam) and this movie is not harsh about that. It's not deny the religion but make the question about morality and I think nowadays people just dont care about that. I hope I am wrong but it looks like that for me. Also I must watch the directors cut

@@owcaandroid The movie doesn't really make any judgements in either direction, it just looks at religion and the role it played in people's lives in the Middle Ages. You MUST watch the DC, it is a completely different movie.

As someone replied ...yes it is totally underrated Love this film. I have Watched it several times. Many have tried In history to fight for Jerusalem .Just think of Palm Sunday when Jesus arrives in Jerusalem then you'll Understand the value of it

I greatly enjoy this movie. It's one of the few that I can watch again and again and not find it boring. Sure it's not historically accurate. That's really a good thing in the end. If a story is told well, historical or fiction, then it's a good story that will compel others to listen.

I thought the parts of the movie set in France looked like actual winter scenes and not the fake winter scenes that are so easy to spot in movies.

Fun fact: On the last day of shooting the France scenes (which were actually shot in Northern Spain), it started snowing for real so they didn't have to use fake snow.
