Fantasy is my favorite genre so the idea that there was no plot because the author needed to build the world rubs me the wrong way.

This book was a pain in the ass. Honestly. I can't find another way to describe it. It took me SO MUCH to finish it. Nothing really happens until end, pages and pages of the same concepts and conversations OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Characters seem to always use the same phrases... like " I hAvE sO MaNy QuEsTiOnS!"... jeez, i genuinely wanted Poppy to get killed at some point. Or Casteel's "You're so incredibly violent". I get it that the author wanted the characters to have catchphrases of some sort but damn... It's repetitive, boring and useless. I'm currently reading The crown of Gilded Bones but after that, I'm done with Armentrout. I don't know if it's me but I truly don't get how these books got so popular.

Oof, people always seem to rave about these books on Booktok. I'm a bit tired of it because they seem to rave about it like its the best fantasy book out there, but it just smut, bad worldbuilding, and some suspiciously racist tropes with the only two POC characters. Not to mention this woman has NO editor when she seems to seriously need one. No hate if u like them, but they aren't my cup of tea :///

I have entire files of meticulously organized notes of world building and NONE of it will end up in my story, because it’s not supposed to be a textbook on the history and culture of a fictional world. They’re my notes for me to reference to keep my world consistent and flow.

I had commented on your other vid that I was thankful you warned about the dub-con/non-con since I hate both and had been contemplating reading this book not knowing... I then had people trying to convince me to read it. I HATE even dub-con but the person tried to convince me that it wasn't realllly non-con. Why are people so insistent for the first book?

I dnfed this book about 50 % I did not get the hype- and my expectations weren't high to begin with. Sometimes I just like some smutty fantasy romance- but this was SO BAD! I skimmed the smutty scenes (which is telling you how bad it was) because I had no emotional investment in the characters, and since they was no plot I just gave up.
