Therion isn't specifically a female fronted band. They use multiple singers, many of them male.

"Once you label me, you negate me" Soren Kierkegaard...try not to negate these fine musicians. Many would debate that, with Lori Lewis rise to prominence, and the vast majority of their work featuring female vocals. It could easily be said that Therion invented female-fronted Symphonic Metal, yet they don't qualify? How many of these bands would even exist if not for Therion?

Very nice list! Not sure I cared for the clip of The Slot (never heard them before). In their place I'd put MindMaze...excellent prog metal with 3 albums & an ep under their belt. Graveshadow is a band to watch for...just released their 2nd album today, and singer Heather Michele also sang on the fantastic 2016 Helion Prime album :)

Nightwish is overwhelming, especially now, when they have a singer who can do literally everything. Then IMO comes Within Temptation, Epica and Lacuna Coil.

@@angeltensey That's your opinion and I respect it even if mine is different. I just don't like Within Temptation, it's simply not my style. Floor Jansen is a goddes of metal and that's true - she can sing everything. But Simone Simons is the same. And I can't say that Brittney Slayes isn't as good as both of them. She is just not so experienced and of course UtA are not that popular, which is the big problem I think. Cristina Scabbia is amazing especially live. She has a little deeper voice that in studio and that's astonishing. But you have to listen Beyond The Black. Jennifer Haben has awesome, powerfull voice in that small body. And she's very beautiful aswell. ;) Just check this band if you didn't before.

I applaud your list!!! Well comprised of vocalists that have staying power... Here comes the proverbial recommendation== Heike Langhans of ISON , DRACONIAN (Sovran album only),LOR3L3l. Heike gives #1 a run for her money in sound and styling. Ms. Langhans is just a bit on the darker side.

Should be Epica 1, tied with Nightwish. Therion and Haggard (female fronted ???) next. Diabulus is too low here. I'm definitely a Within fan, but it's not #1. Top 10 for sure, but not the highest spot. Love seeing Slot on this list. Daria's vocals are, without question, the best I've ever heard. Also, love seeing The Dark Element on this list. Unbelievable debut. Can't wait for more from that band. VIsions is nicely placed, as is Xandria, but Tristania could be higher. And there are some new bands that need some attention as well -- for instance, Light and Shade and Temperance (they share some band members). Also, a HUGE miss, but an understandable one since it appears that almost no one has ever heard of the band -- Escapist. Type the name into KZbin and listen to "Hidden Memories" in its 55 min+ entirety. You're welcome!

Evanescence, Nightwish, Tarja, Unleash the Archers, Arch Enemy, Delain, Within Temptation, Nemesea, Epica, In This Moment, Exit Eden and Lacuna Coil are the best of that list. Everything else seems like they were trying to copy everyone else or just lackluster.

For me it seems like metal, especially female fronted bands are sounding all the same now like modern pop. I felt only Evanesence, Nightwish, ArchEnemy and Within Temptation sounded unique and I really like Epica but at least in this video they mostly all sounded the same. I also feel that these groups needs to bring down the instrumental a little so that one can understand the actual singing.

Its not really that they all sound the same, just that this list is almost exclusively Symphonic Metal and really good Non-Symphonic Female Fronted Metal Bands like Otep, In This Moment, Eyes Set To Kill and New Years Day haven't made it on this list somehow.

I totally agree with you. Except some rare songs, most of them seem to blend into one. Same riffs, same vocal technic, same kind of lyrics... Same synths omnipresent... Some may like it (to each its own) but , personally I find there are other female metal bands much more to my taste.

Elina Siirala (Founder of Angel Nation) and now the lead singer in Leaves' Eyes should be near the top as a singer. Anette is a much better match with Dark Element than with Nightwish, and Floor matches Nightwish better than Tarja did, in my opinion of course. I hope this is not a ranking of bands since Nightwish should be first.

I didn't watch the full video but from what I've seen so far a better title for this video should have been "Top 30 Female Fronted SYMPHONIC Metal Bands You Should Have Heard Of 2018"... But the fact is that I'm impressed by symphonic metal and the technicity of it but I find it... boring (it's just my taste), I'm unable connect with it so it's not a surprise that I didn't hear almost any of those bands this year.

I saw them again last year opening for Evergrey and she sounded great, so it had to be some kind of technical problem, that 2010 show...
