Without a doubt the greatest rock and roll performance on history. Townshend windmilling with his fingers bleeding while Keith Moon goes ape shit...Daltrey tripping while mesmerized by the sun, Entwhistle laying down a thundering groove as usual...top that.

I agree...Keith made those drums sound alive! Like a living, feeling entity with its own personality!

Keith Moon was definitely incredible, and IMO, the 2 greatest rock drummers are John Bonham and Moonie. Probably not coincidentally that Moonie and Bonzo were good friends, as their crazy antics really mirrored one another, even dying at the same age. Bonzo once shared the stage with Moonie, as there is footage of Moonie playing drums alongside Bonzo at a Los Angeles concert back in the day. BTW, GREAT choice here, dude. "See Me, Feel Me" at Woodstock is just phenomenal. Imagine being so lucky to have been able to watch that performance?! YIKES! It took place in the wee hours of the night, but as you can hear from the crowd roaring, they obviously made a HUUUUGE impression.

you are right keith moon is a legend and he will never be matched as a drummer imo, the goat of all drummers, also his hand speed in his prime can't be matched not even john Bonham could match it

Who drummer since 1996 is Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr of the Beatles. Zak learned to play drums while listening to Who tracks playing along with Keith Moon. When Zak was ten Keith gave him his first drum kit. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zak_Starkey

The altercation you're referring to was when activist Abbie Hoffman jumped onstage & tried to steal the mic during the set. Pete told him to "F*** off!". Story also goes that the sun was just coming up during this particular song & you can see Daltrey staring out into the distance hypnotized by it's colors, due to the acid he'd dropped shortly prior. Speaking of sun, recommendation: Hawkwind - Hurry On Sundown (1970)

Roger Daltrey...the other long-haired Blonde Rock God! Happy 51st Anniversary, Woodstock. I'm still waiting for a Reactor to check out the Soundtrack of The WHO's Rock Opera Film "TOMMY". ANY WHO SONG WILL DO, but urge you to see/ hear ELTON JOHN as The PINBALL WIZARD & TINA TURNER as The ACID QUEEN from this movie. Would be so great if you could show these scenes from the Film, but there was a Soundtrack on Vinyl LP as well...one of the 1st albums I ever bought! 🍁✌❤✌🍁

Heck of a reaction. Love the t-shirt. I sense that the energy was on a whole different level because they (especially Pete) were in such a pissy mood. The live version (same song) at the Isle of Wight in 1970 is great as well. You should consider doing "Heaven and Hell" @ Isle of Wight and "A Quick One" @ The Rolling Stones Rock 'n Roll Circus.

Apparently they were tripping on lsd and taking othe stuff. Maybe that's why they were so good. Perhaps a connection to their instruments and their voices were heightened because of it. Whatever it was this is possibly the best live performance in history of any concert of any genre.

According to the Who - they weren't tripping. The audience on the other hand?

Just imagine 400k people who have been listening to soft folk music like Joan Baez and Arlo Guthrie suddenly being assaulted with this mania. This made The Who huge in America.

Moonie was pretty good...Liked that trick he did by tossing a stick way up and catching it..Even if he hadn't met an early demise, he wouldn't have lasted as Who drummer .Drumming takes such a physical toll - just ask Mick Brown of Dokken or Neil Peart , if still around

Punk rock would never existed without these bands: Jonnhy Ramone said once in a interview in mid 90's : I saw the Beatles, The Who, The Stooges, The MC5 and the NY Dools. Beside this The Velvet underground, Bowie & spiders from Mars also influenced punk rock a lot!!
