Kingfisher Wood Works L7 Katori Bokken Quick Look

This is a quick look at a bokken I recently picked up. It is a L7 Katori Bokken from Kingfisher Wood Works. It retails for $122.50.

The wood used is Impact Grade Hickory. I don't know what that means but it is safe to say is is very light looking Hickory.
The bokken is 1lb 3oz 38.5" long and roughly a 28" blade portion.

Applolatian Hickory. Kingfisher makes the best tools out there. I have owned many of pieces from them and they all have stood the test of time. No splintering, no dings. Highly recommend Kingfisher Woodworks.

My boken now has lots of dings but it has held up well thus far. It has only been a few months of use but I have no complaints so far.

You said in the description that the wood is hickory. I am not the most experienced in martial arts but I have used a lot of different tools for the last 20 years. Hickory is a great tool handle material especially for longer handles in axes, sledgehammers and the mattock where you are making great impacts. Great review man!

Thanks for the kind words. I hope it holds up. The wood is so light I thought it was white oak. Anyway, class is coming Monday. We will see how it holds up.

Kingfisher are worth the money. I have 2 yagyu style bokken from them. And I plan on buying another style or two. I'm thinking I'll pick up am aikido one next.

Lol. That laugh at 05:00 Good review. I'll be buying a new Katori bokken sometime in the future. Nice to see a review of bokken as well. Also, both bokken and bokuto means the same thing ;) The "bokk" and "boku" are both the same character, meaning "wood", and "ken" and "to" both mean sword/blade, but are different characters. You're all good either way.

This is pretty nice. My dojo mate has the L5 version, also a very nice bokken. I have two coming from SDK as well. We will see how those compare.
