The past week I’ve been shopping for a pancake lens. I just picked up a 7artisan 18mm f6.3 ultra thin lens. Then I seen this “chip” lens today. I was surfing the web and watching videos til I stumbled on your video. My guy! I remember bumping into that eco thrift years ago lol. Thanks for the review. I’m getting one 👍🏽

10:54 I wish Viltrox made the octagon opening detachable (I don't see why not) so reviewers wouldn't complain so much about it (not you!). I actually like it because the star rays are quite distinct, it sort of narrows/fades in the middle of the ray, gives it a distinct look. When you see it, you can instantly guess it's the Viltrox chip lens.

Love the idea of a super pancake lens for FF. Love the price, seems like a lot of drawbacks though. Yes I understand it’s $99 but that’s still money and I wonder what the trade off of getting this versus saving up and getting the Sony 24mm 2.8 really is. I’ve seen the 24/2.8 go for ~300-400 on the used market. Side note - love your vids always a great time seeing your content

I have the 40mm 2.5 which is almost the same size as the 24mm 2.8. This lens is game changing for the a7c. Yes the g is optically great, but this viltrox makes the a7c actually pocketable
@hellolauАй бұрын
Sure, the Viltrox 28mm f/4.5 pancake is fun, no doubt. But let’s be real-it’s no match for a real lens like Sony’s 24mm f/2.8 G. That one’s got it all: pancake size, weather sealing, variable aperture, an aperture ring, function button-packed into a compact body. And you can score one for around $300. Honestly, f/2.8 is the slowest I’d go for a versatile lens. Anything slower just doesn’t cut it for me. 😊 Let’s be real-you’re not putting your camera in your pants pocket anyway. It looks weird and feels even worse. Just throw it in a small pack or your jacket pocket-that’s what I do.

The Canon EF 40mm f2.8 comes close. The Canon RF 28mm is also very small. Also, Nikon has the 26mm pancake. And all of these allow variable aperture. I think the Viltrox is price is fair, but the lens is not really a good general purpose lens option without variable aperture.

My concern is the mixed signals from camera people. They tell us megapixels doesn't matter at this day and age. Fine. They tell us we shouldn't use things that aren't data sheets compatible because losing out on efficiency, valid. ...So I was thinking, why not use a 16-50mm PZ Sony for all the features and more. If the lens isn't protruding outwards from the grip, it's not drastically changing. And it's difficult to understand the logic of adding a grip when talking about small form factor. It's not your video, all the reviewers do this sugar coating of gear. For $99 it's great but missing out on all those normal features like manual focus makes no sense other than being a cheap alternative for a daylight video lens. A customer will ultimately buy another lens to compensate these normal feature losses, which creates this cycle of too much gear nonsense. Great video tho. The location looks like sky Island

And Unfortunately, now products already sales on Taobao, and the actual selling price (USD70) is obviously lower than the price of i join (USD89). I fell very angry about the fraudulent behavior.
