Hey Martina. I used to be a subscriber to Eat Your Kimchi/Sushi. It was tough to watch what happened to you guys, and I had to take a break for a while, but I'm so happy to see you flourishing now. I have a toddler and a newborn, and I'm dealing with a lot of difficult things in my life right now. I just want to thank you for taking me away from all of that for just a few minutes and for giving me hope that you can thrive after very hard times. 💕

@@danbrand2455 I see what you are saying, and I agree that what I may be going through is not nearly as bad as others. This thought does help me to be thankful and empathize with those in other countries who experience even more pain. However, not all pain is perceived the same. For one, infidelity might be harder for them than war that goes on. Or visa versa. While I understand your sentiment, I think you should find empathy in you heart for folks going through any kind of turmoil.

I'm sure I've commented this before but it would be really cool if you went to those little towns that have that one thing they do. Like peaches, or plums, or cheese. People are so passionate and I love it! One of my favourite things about Japan is how seasonal a lot of food is, makes it more exciting when it's the right time of year to eat.

Hi, I just want to make it clear that takoyaki is NOT topped with teriyaki sauce, but with a type of Japanese worcester sauce ウスターソース (Usutā sōsu). It is similar to tonkatsu sauce and okonomiyaki sauce. These "worcester"-type sauces can include ingredients like fish sauce, tomatoes, prunes, dates, apples, lemon juice, carrots, onions, malt vinegar, yeast, and vegetable and fruit purees that are cooked down in a pot for a long time. On the other hand, Teriyaki sauces are used as a glaze where foods are broiled or grilled with a mix of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar.
@KingKogi
@KingKogi Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the all this excellent info! I hope others can read your detailed comment! Truthfully, I also knew this, but it’s quite hard to explain “flavours” to people who haven’t tasted something before, so I try to compare a similar taste that one might have encountered. Teriyaki sauce in other countries is quite sweet and not quite like any sauce I’ve had in Japan, but I certainly know most people haven’t tried ウスターsauce before, so I felt like teriyaki flavour might be the closest. I contemplated “Bulldog” sauce as a comparison but also wasn’t sure if it was popular enough. Either way, thanks for the info 🙇🏼‍♀️

@@KingKogi I agree with this sentiment! Not everyone is familiar with Japanese flavors. It may seem so popular in most places that we take for granted that some people may not even have seen takoyaki more so tasted it before. this may sound very silly but I would love it if you created a "fashion" tour guide. More so, what types of clothing is best for certain aspects of the year. For example, where I live in the DMV because of the scorching heat and humidity, we just wear crop tops and shorts in the summer---no one bats an eye it's so hot. Yet, I know in Japan, it's very much a different culture. So, that's my silly request :)

Buddhism is one of Japan's main religions, so there is actually long history of vegan cuisine in Japan! Just look for "Shōjin ryōri", Buddhist cuisine, temple cuisine, ascetic cuisine, or devotion cuisine. You are right that many otherwise vegan dishes outside of shoujin ryouri are often prepared with seafood in some way.

Okay I had a few ideas for travel guides, and want to get this written before I forget everything so I haven’t looked at the ones you have. I was thinking that of course you have food guides, but also maybe coffee/tea interspersed. Also a culture focused guide would be cool, where you show art, must see sites, architecture, and maybe educational experiences. Then I was also thinking a relaxation expansion pack would be cool where you could show places like spas, tea houses, and onsens! Maybe also like a “must see weekend” package by area and give a taste of all the categories that could be visited in a weekend in Tokyo, Osaka, or so on

I never, ever comment, but had to today ☺️☺️ Your videos are so good Martina, and the videography is amazing! 🤩 Dan and Martina are video dreamteam 🤩🤩🤩 I met you once, many many years ago, when you visited my country. I did not know who you were then - but I was randomly recommended a EYK video some years back, and was like “…familiar”. Followed your channels since, and love the way you are developing King Kogi. 💖 Planning a trip to Korea and Japan later this year and will be getting your guides ☺️ even though I’ve been both places before. Here’s to a happy 2023!

I love that OG naked takiyaki spot. Its like Osakas version of a beloved and unchanging hot dog joint in Chicago where I grew up. So cool to see
