Because most of his body ( in spite of his enormous size ) is solid muscle, that was Stan Lee's explanation a long time ago... It's like having all that "extra" padding that protects him from many injuries and hits from superhuman opponents... Although Spiderman has always held back for fear of killing him, except for that one time when he unleashed his full anger and strength on the Kingpin and beat him within an inch of his life, but even then it took a few punches and kicks to take him down, punches and kicks that would have killed anyone else instantly...

I used to read Spider-Man comics in the seventies and at one point the kingpin was uncomfortable with his weight so he took an experimental steroid to boost his metabolism hopefully to lose weight but what it did was turned all of his fat cells into muscle but at the same time they don't look like muscle which is why later versions of the kingpin can tango with Spider-Man or Captain America or Luke cage. Although I would say his strength doesn't measure up to either of those three. He is also very fast and has a boosted metabolism. But this kingpin could be one of the ones from the multiverse is hard to know. I believe they made hints at this situation in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon on Fox TV but I can't remember

@@ranielalmaria6612 i used to be an avid consumer of cpmics and all things marvel and DC. since the mid 60s but atopped in 1981 and sold my over 1500 comics. a move I regret to this day I can remember well kind of and I am not sure if it was in power man / daredevil / capt america and the falcon or Spidey, but he went on an exercise and martial arts regime. And took somthng maybe even an energy drink or pill created by one of his mad doctors and later lifted a car, its possible I am confusing him with Tobias Whale from DC who got his strength medically, as they were quite similar. can also remember, off topic / the Fantastic 4 having a write in contest as to wheather to drop Sue from the eam for being too weak, Fans voted to keep her, and right after that galactus tried to tempt her as a new herald and gave her a taste of the power cosmic,She would decline but after that her powers ibecame what they are now. Catwoman being experimented on using cat pheremoans or stem cells or somthing. and after some retconning or changes Sue is a powerhouse and Catwoman is more agile / stronger / faster and has night vision / without the glasses Bruce gave her.

@@mickymalibu I havent read comics since the 80s, but back then the kingpin, has had some enhancments to his strength, mostly temporary. In one instance his fat was turned into a form of muscle increasing his strength, but it was temporary, That was in a spider man comic as of today I believe his strength is more like a circus strong man, but with fight training, and speed and agility for his size. I berieve Tobias Whale gained his strength from streoid enhamcments, he is Dc's kingpin.

Kingpin, gaining Spidey Powers, even if only briefly... makes him more dangerous a foe for Spiderman because now he has first-hand experience to how Spidey's base powers work... I think they could make him more believable if they just had his genetics as something tied to a measure BEYOND human. As we know, peak human capability cant throw people through walls, but what if his ancestors had long lost powers that were passed down through blood to kingpin himself? Even going so far as to have his ancient ancestors actually being heroes who had lost their powers long ago and somehow, through generations passed on some modicum of their abilities to him.1

Kingpins strength is > peak human he clean and jerked 1,200 pounds, the current real world record for super heavyweight is 589 pounds in this lift, that is the peak level of strength for a normal human who is devoted to strength training. He doesn't belong in superhuman territory but he is lowest level of enhanced human strength, note that he isn't enhanced technically by any power or serum but his strength feats have passed peak human. Again I want to impress Batman with max effort can bench 1,000 pounds and that is a way easier lift than a clean and jerk at 1,200 that Kingpin performed. The fact that he can go toe to toe with Captain America and Spiderman just blows the peak human categorization out of the water, Captain America can beat peak humans all day long and Spidey can do it with ease. His durability and endurance also fall into the low enhanced level as he fought spiderman for six hours straight, a regular human no matter how conditioned could not exert himself at that level for that duration of time. He was hit by a car, took blows from Spiderman/Captain America, and Daredevil.

Believe it or not Biscuit Oliva in Grappler Baki was modeled after Kingpin. Biscuit Oliva's earliest incarnation against Yugiro Hanma in the OVA is basically Kingpin with brown skin. Edit: Yes I'm fully aware Biscuit Olivia was modeled after real Cuban American Sergio Olivia. However fun fact Sergio Olivia modeled himself after Arnold Schwarzenegger in order to become the next Mr. Universe. Lol I know absolutely insane mindset.

My theory is that Kingpin had to have had at least some measure of super-strength at one time.There are just too many instances of him fighting Spidey/Cap'n America that show he's more than "peak human" and despite what it says in TOHOTMU there's no way they were holding back against him but he may have lost it after ASM #197 and when he later became Daredevil's foe. As to the more recent stuff--who knows?
