(I PROBABLY STAND CORRECTED AS THEY MAY HAVE USED A ROLAND TR 909) Although this was banging I think Schooly D was the first person that I heard use this break in a Hip Hop Rap record, and as with many artists from that era if they found a good sample or rare break they would put something over it like scratching so that most people would be unable to lift it. In my early days of making music I was guilty of the same thing and mind set, as everyone back then really strived to be and stay original Schooly definitely was a pioneer of Gangster Rap very early on in Hip Hop. Masters At Work, I’m guessing that they were into Hip Hop big time, and if I’m right they’re from New - York and would have access to original Break Beats, and so for quality they’d probably sample the original record, and not Schooly D’s it had to much scratching over it…..!!!
@virgilwilliams2378 Жыл бұрын
@@Younghead I would really would love to know where that drum break is actually from if not from him. Cause i'm the person if i recognize a sample and know from what record i would go to E Bay, or the record shop and buy the album. And yes. MAW is from New York.
@Younghead Жыл бұрын
@@virgilwilliams2378 It May be highly likely they made it from a Roland TR 909, because a few of the guys back then were making tracks that way and scratching classic sounds from many artists you probably already. Plus they kept using it in the album. Meaning Schoolly D’s D.J. - Davey DMX was doing tracks similar as well. And it’s nearly come back round again with Trap Music and so much more using 808 or 909😂🤣
@Younghead Жыл бұрын
@@virgilwilliams2378 The thing is when you listen again closely the high hats and Crash Symbols might not all match a 909 as some of the 909 samples are from a real drum kit. You kinda opened a can worms and you really got me analysing it, as I see your comment, and we used listen to that album big time in the 80’s, KRS 1 and D.J. Erik B we’re doing similar style tracks. There’s people saying it may be a Oberheim DMX or SP12 drum machine…..🧐
