First off, I didn't even notice the Flanders cheeks so kudos on the subliminal programming, nice one Trev. Second, it's funny that you down your writing in this video because from 23:55 on, you end being pretty insightful and put down some of your best work. It's difficult to put very specific feelings like this down into text. Good job.

Great video. I love King's Field, and all these old spooky dungeon games. I'd like to see this genre make a comeback. It would definitely be possible to make a self-deleting game. I've ran some experiments on this before, including an online type thing where the game files are partially stored on the cloud with Firebase. Meaning if one player fucks up then the game files are corrupted for anyone playing it.

I played an iPhone game a decade ago that sent SMS's to your phone, being a text based choose your own adventure book- The character was on Mars and asked you for assistance on what to do, including researching things online to find out what the best options are for survival. It was really cool. Add in the self-deleting feature and we will be thousandaires!

14:46 From Software still does this as well in a way. Playing Elden Right now, and you can't compare the stat differences from buying armor from a merchant, to what you are currently wearing. But at least you can when it's in your inventory. Still a dumb pointless limitation of course 16:39 That cool idea gets pretty bad in the third game, where instead of translating it, the localizers just made it all jokes. Now that I think about it though, I wouldn't be surprised in the same was done for KFII, just not as overtly jokey.

You bring up an interesting point with the Souls games- not necessarily one I have trouble with, but one that I acknowledge is present. And the problem is escalation. Dark/Demon Souls was hard because it was new to everyone, and the game mechanics were fairly simply. As the series progressed, so did the players skillsets, necessitating new ways to challenge the player, resulting in every boss being an exercise in attrition. In essence, every time we found a weak spot in the brick wall they built, they built a new layer of wall instead of filling in the hole we created. Mix that with Bloodborne almost completely negating a style of play most people were accustomed to, Sekiro basically being a different genre altogether, and imitators taking the wrong lessons from the Souls games, and you have what we have today. Or maybe I'm just trying to sound smart, I don't know. You don't pay me for my opinions, I'm just here to clean the toilets
@Trevelyan22 күн бұрын
That’s true- If they made a new Dark Souls and kept it at a slower pace, the feedback is probably going to be negative. But the push from bonfire to bonfire in DS 1 is still brutal to every other entry, especially at the start, with the mobs being crafted to punish aggression. Personally, unlocking the elevation at the church is the floodgate of dopamine that is my reward, not the mildly difficult boss at the top. Black Myth had me for a while with their style, but the focus is bosses, and a lot of them. Tons of credit to where it’s due, it’s a rare game to turn me away. It’s so close to letting you feel like an ultimate badass monkey man, but you’re stuck being a glass cannon that can afford few mistakes as the game progresses.
