*I said "Northumberland" I was meant to say "Tyne and Wear" How ever back in the 17/18 hundreds it was part of County Durham*

Also, Elswick is pronounced 'Elzick'. Thought you would have known that.

The Kingsmeadow Haugh being the main reason why the Metrocentre needed substantial underpinning & engineering work in the mid 90s, the M&S end of the centre had started to settle in the sand.

Hi, I have recently discovered through my family tree searches that my 3 times great grandfather Robert Stafford is listed on the 1851 census as being the land occupier of Kings Meadows Elswick . It states he was a farmer and publican of approx 34 acres of Kings Meadows. Thank you for providing such a lovely video and history that has helped bring my family tree to life.

thankyou ir ia impoerant the history of the tyne is available for all to learn and see, for future generations - when you think of how the Tyne has changed in one generation from an idustrial hive to a quiet river where Salmon now make their way up to spawn in the higher streams.

My great-grandfather, grandfather, and uncles Built some of those Barges and transported goods up and down the Tyne, some of it from Armstrong's works on the other side of the river, all from the Saddlers boat yard in Dunston.

I wonder if many people who live in Dunston now have any idea about what used to be along the river

@@greenman2262 three of my uncles used to work at Taylor & Pallister. One of them told me how when he was a kid, he and his mate sneaked into the canteen in the then still open CWS building. The woman in charge said they could have a free meal if they cleared up all the plates :-) He also said kids from his school got into trouble for setting off detonators down there that seemed to have been left by the railway. By the 80s, only Hide & Skin was still working in the lower part of the CWS building. Sometimes used to sneak in to the CWS building with other kids. I was at Riverside primary across the road and we all used to imagine we could see a ghost on the roof.

You’ve gave me an interesting idea, if my next video goes well I could very well do a walk of the entire Walker line and it’s history.
