I think there are only about 3-5 players playing better than I expected them to since preseason. When it comes to the Defense, the stats tell you everything you need to know about Jim Knowles unit. If you look at the Big Ten stat leaders on D there are not any Buckeyes in the top 5 in any stat category (Tackles, Sacks, TFL, FF, INT), except for TDs where Ransom is tied for 2nd with 10 others. That's just the B1G stats not the entire country. I thought they were supposed to be an elite Defense. I want them to be. Hopefully next time they play a top 5 team they can prove that they are an elite D. But I am not holding my breath as long as there is never enough pressure on the QBs.

Going to this game. Will be my 1st game ever. Super excited. Wish Nebraska was able to keep it together last week, though. Still pumped, though.

We need a player in the mold of KJ Hill/ Curtis Samuel on the roster...Why no scat backs? Seems like Chip Kelly could weaponize a player like that....

"Nebraska's sadder." That's like when Biden told us that we should be happy with $4.00/Gal gas because they were paying 3x that amount in Europe. IDGAF about Nebraska's fans' happiness or lack thereof, nor do I give a rip about gas prices in Europe. And that Knowles wasn't man enough to take media questions about that shit show he put on the field Vs Oregon is just another bad look for a guy who's had NOTHING but bad looks in match-talent games for THREE YEARS now... Knowles is essentially stealing money from Ohio State at this point.

Knowles doesn’t determine his media availability fella. And he was there for the post game press conference. Nobody has consistently good defense in match talent games. Georgia gave up 30 to Bama in the first half. Jim Knowles would get hired in an instant by 99% or the teams in the country.

@@jordanmadden7388 First, if Jim Knowles wanted to speak, then he absolutely could have met with the media, bcuz the media VERY much wanted to meet with him; Jerry Emig doesn't tell the 2mil per DC when he can and cannot speak. Jerry arranges schedules and media access, but Knowles isn't silenced, that's ridiculous. Second, if you can watch UGA's defense, for eg., Vs Texas and think it's the same as OSU's defense Vs Oregon - or ANY top-5 opponent the Bucks have played since Jim Knowles arrived - then we're watching different sports... fella. And third, I never said Knowles wouldn't be hired as soon as he leaves OSU, but sometimes things just aren't working, and in this case, Knowles has virtually always failed Vs match-talent programs as Ohio State's DC... it isn't working, and his defense is THE reason Ohio State has lost all of those games (ttun in 22/23, UGA 22, Oregon 24). Knowles' defense has prevented OSU from reaching ALL of its stated goals since he's been here: No wins Vs ttun, no B1G titles, no CFP titles ALL because of his failed defense.

@@keithmichael5839Your keen insight into the decision making at the top of the program notwithstanding, the guys here at The Podcast mentioned that they feel it was a top-down decision that only Day speak to the media while there were contentious issues flowing around the defensive staff. Like you, Day was not happy with the defense performance, but he stated it in a more practical way. Unlike you, he apparently saw no value in sending out his subordinates where they might be asked to answer questions about internal discussions. FWIW, I feel that the Buckeyes underperforming defense needs to be addressed both in the short term and the long term. Now, it seems as if Day take is focused on the short-term. For the long term, there likely needs to be coaching changes. My vote would be to cashier Larry Johnson. Not only are OSU edge rushers not at the top of the best lists, they're not even on the list most sacks for edge rushers in college football and that list goes to number 50. For reasons beyond my comprehension, Johnson seems to have a certain amount of veto power over what schemes are implemented by the entire defense. That's backed up by reporting done by beat journalists. That's on Ryan Day. I find it inexplicable. The bottom line for me is that Knowles was brought over here because of his success at Oklahoma State and then it seems he's not been given full support to implement here what he did there. For the first year, and maybe two, I would understand a transition as athletes recruited for one scheme work through their eligibility. As much as it pains me to say it, Nick Saban was right. We're running an antique scheme that benefits the philosophy of Larry Johnson. Is not a scheme that benefits the Ohio State defense as a whole. That's why I think LJ needs to leave.

@@LKeithG How do u know what veto power LJ does or does not have?Birmingham's and Ward's vague suggestions that there is and has been discord between LJ and Knowles? If Johnson does have veto power, as your 'keen insight' suggests, then Day has failed again as the head coach. If Johnson has no veto power, then Knowles has failed as DC. I don't who on the defensive side of the ball needs to hear Ryan Day say, "Your job AND my job are on the line, so here's what we're doing moving forward... Knowles has complete authority to run the defense as he sees fit, and the position coaches, no matter how senior, will coach their unit to the best of their ability WITHIN the scheme." I dont care who leaves - LJ, Knowles, or both - but the defense folding virtually every time they play a talent-match program has been old for a long time now, so the guy making 10MILLION per season needs to figure it out.
