Aha Shake Heartbreak is perhaps my favorite KOL album, followed by Because Of The Times at a very close second (but I also really love Youth and Young Manhood, and Come Around Sundown). It’s just a masterpiece. And marks a very particular, very specific place in time at the turn of the new century. It was such a breath of fresh air coming out of the dark and murky grunge and goth time periods, to get some old school, full throttle, soulful, loose, hard punching, real rock and roll with a punk soul and southern drawl; and at the chewy center, very naughty😂. So I remember when this album came out, and I heard it for the first time, just being so blown away by it; not just with the music itself, but their impressive growth from 1st to 2nd album was just unbelievable. Aha is the definition of a perfect album too. No filler, all killer. Every song a keeper. None go in the bin😉Also remember back then I was the only one I knew who had heard of them stateside, having just come back over from London, where their first album Youth And Young Manhood was all the talko; yet in the US they were obscure, unknown and untested. But I told everyone who would listen about this incredible new band, just wouldn’t shut up about them; played everyone their music, and passionately lauded how they were the real deal, and that if they could stay together and stay alive king enough, they were destined to become legends. 21 years later, and I for one am very glad they’re still around, still making excellent, ever evolving music, with live shows that are second to none, and that they all lived to tell the tale (confirmed true tales of their hard partying, hard drug, hard drinking ways of old were EPIC); they all stayed around long enough to become rock and roll legends. And that is very, very cool.

Yes,yes & yes to this! I picked it up blindly when it was just released in October,2004 (never heard of them before) & it blew my mind off. It marked the new beginning in my life at the time...I couldn't understand most of the lyrics or the meaning of them, but it sounded to me like a spell, or some mystical coded stories about life experiences. I loved that they've almost never use cliche lyrics, phrases. It was so different. And Calebs voice 😩.This album is my special album, because of the time I found it, of all the circumstances and how instinctively I was drawn to it. It kind of shaped me. Then Because of the times came out & it cemented the love for KOL. Only by the night I was scared to listen to because I didn't want to be disappointed (how many albums from one band in a row you can actually love?) & I loved too. They just couldn't make a bad album or a track😭. Come around sundown down and the rest took me longer to learn to love and appreciate. But I don't think they can make bad music. We might not connect to certain albums or connect less, but they are truelly a great band. Sorry for a massive post. I had an urge to let my love for this band out 😂
