They're just the right kind of addition, not too complicated and reasonably impactful. If the general orders and the faction orders come included on the companion army list output, it will be perfect.

always good to see some KoW batreps on the interweb! still not sold on the command dice, but at least I have a better idea of how they work

They're fine, but they do feel tacked on, which is what they are. A new edition with these actually a part of the mechanics like in Firefight is where it can work. For instance instead of faction specific orders, orders unique to characters adds a lot of flavour, especially in place of auras.

@@CaffeinatedWarlord I understand the idea behind adding them, but Kings of War for me thrived best in its simplicity. I feel this is best as an optional ruleset for specific scenarios or points levels.

@oidussus7220 maybe something just for ambush? Simplicity is key to Kings, and when it's a big game there's usually enough going on already.

@@CaffeinatedWarlord Yeah, I think that ambush would be a good level for it, small enough to make each point really matter. At a certain point for larger games, I can't see them being too critical with so many extra units on the board to support

More interested in your opinion of the command dice mechanism. What do you think about it?

It adds just a little more to the way you can affect the game. A reroll here, a brutal there. It's not too taxing on the brain but it will help to have the orders on the army list output from the companion. One does need to invest in at least one extra command dice to reliably use anything of 4 command points or more. Dan got great value out of his red and white dice as he could use the Low Blows order nearly every turn!

Very nice battle report, thanks for that! I'm also not a fan of progressive scoring because it runs counter to KOW's typicaly "you've always got a chance " right through Turn 6/7 philosophy.

I was just surprised how early in the game it became apparent. So used to the closeness of most KoW games!

Host Shadow beast is not a unique spell, unique spells are from the unique spell list. However it is unique in that you may only take it once. Mantic using a word to describe different situations

So can I add a dice to it using the command order then? Because that could be very helpful with HSB that must succeed

​@@CaffeinatedWarlordas far as I know yes, also the Conjurer's Staff would also work on HSB. (I had the RC getting involved on a fanatics post a while ago, the unique spells are the six from that table, not spells [1])

In the new Cok, all spells with a [1] are now considered unique

What do you guys think of the new lord of lies for kings of war?

The Lord of Lies model is incredible but the bonus it brings beyond a standard archfiend probably isn't worth it. It loses access to magical items, gains slayer 3 and shuts down auras. That can be great against halflings and twilight kin, and then useless against Ogres or Elves. I will likely just use the model (which I have on the way) as an archfiend, because it's incredible.

Yeah I wasn't a fan once I realized I had no way of winning.. my fault for not rushing up but unfortunately my army doesn't like splitting up. It always ends in disaster!
