Great video Taylor! 2 things though. 1) the Kings don't score at the end of every round when they are face up. They only score those points at the end of the game if they are not used at all during the game (aka not playing into a trick). That white flag above the points is a reminder of "End of Game". When they are used and flipped over, they will score those points for cards captured in tricks every round. 2) The Resistance can't change the 1 or 10 they play to a different suit. It stays at the same suit, it just allows for 110. The iconography is a little confusing and makes it seem like you can change suit, but that is just telling you "any 1" or "any 10" you play.

Ahhh cheers, Ryan! That first point is super helpful! The second I have correct, just with the wording of a comma 'any 1 into 10, in any of the suits' haha!

Thanks for including your thoughts even though this is a KS preview. I felt kind of similarly after watching a how to play video. It seems a bit overwhelming. I think I'll stick with all my other TrickTakers stuff and unfortunately pass on this even though I love the art!

Really appreciate your thoughts and humor as always. Sucks that I love this game's design but I don't think I want to back it because I don't think I can pull and keep a group to play it. It seems like one I'd thoroughly enjoy, but just like with Sail, I just don't know if I can ever get it to the table. I want to back both just to have them, but I also realize I'll probably want to be buying games I can actually get people playing since I'm now running game nights locally (and only mildly successful since most people here don't even know modern board games exist, or don't care).

Oh I totally get that, Kyle! It's always smart to only get games that can be played and get to the table! Thanks a million for the kind words and the amazing comment, as always 😁😁✨🙌🙌

Great video. I normally like to sleeve all my card games. Did you sleeve the King & character cards that have scratch-resistant matte PP finish? I was worried they will become permanetly stuck to the sleeves

Ahh yeah if i sleeved this would be a big one, i don't sleeve often sadly! But this for sure!

What do you think about a suggested setup for the first time play to help learn characters? Maybe different for each player count….
@CardsUnbarred
@CardsUnbarred Жыл бұрын
There is going to be a recommended setup in the rulebook for first time play 😄So you skip the drafting phase and are giving a certain set of characters!

That's a great idea, Danique! Sounds like they are going to have that in the rulebook when this is finally out! Great idea!! 👏👏

Ooh! Taylor!! This looks like a lot of crazy fun! From an outside perspective it looks like there's too much going on - how could I possibly keep track of what everyone else can do to make the best decision on my turn? But then that also seems like some of the fun of the game of being surprised over and over again. Also by bidding 0 I suppose you can protect yourself in a way if you think that everyone else is doing better. "I don't know why I did that. Maybe I'm just looking at a tiger right now." 🤣 too cute One question - I saw that there were two Ninjas, for example, are their bids on the back of the card the same? Is there a way to see what the bid is from the front of the card? Oops that's two questions.
@CardsUnbarred
@CardsUnbarred Жыл бұрын
1) Yes, the bid options are the same on the back for every matching character 2) In the top right hand corner on the front, it shows the bid options that are on the back!
@ClaudeAndTaylor
@ClaudeAndTaylor Жыл бұрын
Hahaaa oh totallyyyy, Xan! There's so much going on that things do take a bit to grasp and you feel surprised for sure, especially at different player counts. Your last question(s) is great! There is the same bid on the back and from of characters, so that helps clean up the decision for players. And yep, that bid is seen from the front!
@xandermichael78

@@ClaudeAndTaylor @CardsUnbarred Thanks you two! Now that it's been pointed out I can see the little mark in the corner with the bid on the flip side. I think I'll be backing this one because it feels like it'll feel like crazy fun to play.

There aren’t any comments for little Tricktakers. For first timers, do you recommend playing little Tricktakers first then Tricktakers?
@ClaudeAndTaylor
@ClaudeAndTaylor Жыл бұрын
Hey Earl, amazing question! I've sadly only played a little bit of Little tricktakers and it was a bit ago, so I'm not sure if I'm the best to answer this. But it is simpler and easier to on-board, if that's your main goal
@CardsUnbarred
@CardsUnbarred Жыл бұрын
Hey Earl! So I will start off by answering the question and say that Little Tricktakers was technically designed to be an "intro" version into the Tricktakers series (a pre-sequel if you will). The character's were slightly tweaked, some of them were simplified, and the crown system was removed (so games will always go 3 rounds and then the most points wins, unless someone takes all 5 tricks in a round......which isn't going to happen 😅). All this was an attempt to make everything "more balanced and easier for first timers". But in the final design, that ended up not really being the case. This isn't to say Little is bad because of that, in fact there is one thing from Little that I absolutely love and use in all of my plays no matter which version, and that is the Adventurer item shop! It is so freaking great. However, the item shop now causes players to focus on 2 things when drafting at the beginning of the round. 1) a character 2) an item/card/ability. Then in Round 3 players draft 2 characters that they would combine together, giving them access to both abilities (and possibly 1-2 summons, which is a whole other thing to think about) and an item/card/ability as usual. So this adds a lot of up front mental load in decisions you have to make on what combos you want. All of this ends up making the game almost as "difficult", if not more "difficult" as base Tricktakers to learn. So with that in mind, personally, I can't see it as something to recommend to first timers to play over base Tricktakers. And I want to clarify I am saying this as in it doesn't matter which one you pick to play first as they are both "complicated" in their own ways. I air quoted a lot of things because words like balanced, easier, difficult, and complicated are all subjective words and every player is going to have a different experience, but as some one who has played the base game over 50 times and Little almost 10 times I feel the words I used is what most people would experience when playing these games. But I will obviously slap the YMMV sticker here 😆 Ultimately, base Tricktakers and Little Tricktakers are definitely games that shine from repeat plays and having that experience and understanding the flow of the game/different combos you can make. So I think if there is anything to take away from this extremely long ramble is that players, on average, should be going into this game knowing it will probably take 5+ plays before they truly wrap their heads around it, so first time away with either game and I think you should have a good time!

Do you think it would work introducing/teaching this game to players you could start with just basic trumps, next round add the JQK, and then finally the special characters?
@CardsUnbarred
@CardsUnbarred Жыл бұрын
The designer, Hiroken, is actually working on adding additional rules in the game that will do something similar to this! Not exactly the same as you stated, but it will be a way that helps slowly introduce the Tricktakers style of play, but also shows love to some old school traditional style games.
@ClaudeAndTaylor

Hey Krissy, yeah I could see that working as a nice intro for sure. It would definitely help cut down on the overwhelming nature of the game. Great idea!!

Hiroken should create a Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion style campaign/on-ramping system that adds more rules over the course of 3-5 games. KINGs: Eye of the Tiger or something haha
