In a knockout critical game, Leela Chess delivers one of the most beautiful chess engine overprotection, restraint, thorn pawn game in history of Chess! From the opening, White plays passively and allows black great control over the central e4 square. Leela builds up a positional advantage by playing for a thorn pawn on h3 which starts to restrain a large percentage of White's pawn structure. Later with a positional pawn sacrifice and even with Queens coming off, the central overprotection point is used even by the Black king with decisive effect as White's pieces particularly the dark squared bishop is imprisoned and a spectator piece within this pawn chain. A strategic masterclass to behold! One of the most beautiful engine games ever in the history of Chess!

Info about Leela Zero:
en.wikipedia.o...
...
Leela Chess Zero (lc0) is a free, open-source, and neural network-based chess engine and distributed computing project.
Leela Zero's algorithm is based on DeepMind's 2017 paper about AlphaGo Zero.[3][6] Unlike the original Leela, which has a lot of human knowledge and heuristics programmed into it, Leela Zero only knows the basic rules and nothing more.[7]
Leela Zero is trained by a distributed effort, which is coordinated at the Leela Zero website. Members of the community provide computing resources by running the client, which generates self-play games and submits them to the server. The self-play games are used to train newer networks. Generally, over 500 clients have connected to the server to contribute resources.[7] The community has provided high quality code contributions as well.[7]
Leela Zero finished third at the BerryGenomics Cup World AI Go Tournament in Fuzhou, Fujian, China on 28 April 2018.[8]
Info about Alphazero:
en.wikipedia.o...
AlphaZero is a computer program developed by the Alphabet-owned AI research company DeepMind, which uses an approach similar to AlphaGo Zero's to master not just Go, but also chess and shogi. On December 5, 2017 the DeepMind team released a preprint introducing AlphaZero, which, within 24 hours, achieved a superhuman level of play in these three games by defeating world-champion programs, Stockfish, elmo, and the 3-day version of AlphaGo Zero, in each case making use of custom tensor processing units (TPUs) that the Google programs were optimized to make use of.[1] AlphaZero was trained solely via "self-play" using 5,000 first-generation TPUs to generate the games and 64 second-generation TPUs to train the neural networks, all in parallel, with no access to opening books or endgame tables. After just four hours of training, DeepMind estimated AlphaZero was playing at a higher Elo rating than Stockfish; after 9 hours of training, the algorithm decisively defeated Stockfish 8 in a time-controlled 100-game tournament (28 wins, 0 losses, and 72 draws).[1][2][3] The trained algorithm played on a single machine with four TPUs.
...
Relation to AlphaGo Zero
Further information: AlphaGo Zero
AlphaZero (AZ) is a more generalized variant of the AlphaGo Zero (AGZ) algorithm, and is able to play shogi and chess as well as Go. Differences between AZ and AGZ include:[1]
AZ has hard-coded rules for setting search hyperparameters.
The neural network is now updated continually.
Go (unlike Chess) is symmetric under certain reflections and rotations; AlphaGo Zero was programmed to take advantage of these symmetries. AlphaZero is not.
Chess can end in a draw unlike Go; therefore AlphaZero can take into account the possibility of a drawn game.
AlphaZero vs. Stockfish and elmo

Wonderful game, and your enthusiasm is infectious! On a more sombre note, Leela (same version) was decimated by the lowly Pedone yesterday over at CCC. Perhaps it's also a good idea to look at Leela blunders to gain extra insight?

Leela has much better coordination and you get the impression that she can look into and snipe these tiny advantages from so far away! In other words, she is stacking the opponent's inaccuracies move by move.

And fails to make fish stock out of Stockfish. The good news is that Leela stretched the knock-out match against Fishy longer than any of Fishy's TCEC knock-out opponents.

6:00 "This is Caveman Leela" 😂 One recurring theme we see in the Leela games is the knight vs. bishop trades. And in many cases, like in this game, Leela's compensation is a development advantage. The white knight moves three times to capture a bishop that has only moved once. So that's a tempo gain for black, which clearly shows in the position around 2:30, where white will need to move the bishop before even castling, while the black rook is already gunning up the E file

At around 15:00 I can see the Nf8 plan immediately but Leela first tries to get some rook moves in - I think what we can learn is that if there is no defense against one threat/plan (Nf8 and so on) we can first try to get the opponent to make more mistakes and improve the position in other ways.

13:48 - giving up the light square Bishop was a bad move for White. Black controlled all those white squares leading to the White King. Computer programs can't see that. Leela is perhaps showing us how a human could one day beat chess engines rated at say 3300.

When (/how if possible already) can I use (one of the strongest versions) Leela to analyze one of my games? Instead of Stockfish 9 I rather have something that plays this way lol I want to play like Leela. (I know sometimes they might find the same move when it's obviously the best in a position but still) I understand most of the opening ideas and her super aggressive style on the kingside lol (fawn/thorn pawns), but her opponents don't play the same moves as some of the engines I battle against in the opening phase and I can only draw at best usually if I get into a comfortably equal position, so I'm curious how Leela would play in certain positions sometimes... Leela is already on the path to change the chess world in a positive way, but chess will make huge progress when Leela game analysis becomes available that we can use to help us analyze our games. It would show so many amazing positions/continuations. What I'm curious about in the opening for this game is, what if white plays 12. Bd3 , then kingcrusher mentioned Bg4, but white could simply castle right? And then I wonder how Leela would play from there (if she chooses Bg4). Stockfish would knight post on e4 or play Qd7 or Rc8..hmm, maybe Leela continues with the same kind of plan with h6 -g5 again and gradually builds up the attack, I understand the theme but there could be a lot of weird inbetween stuff in a slightly different position that makes it have less winning chances and more drawing chances. But then again, advanced pawns on the kingside when properly installed are overpowered... The future rule of chess is: First player to get a thorn/fawn pawn installed wins (no need to play out the rest of the game lol)

I honestly like A0 gameplay better when you sacs tons of material for the most abstract shits like putting your rooks or queen on 6th or even 5th rank. Anyway we still need to have Leela trained into stuff A0 plays.

Thanks! I just tried that, do I put them both in the same folder after extracting the files to a folder I made on my desktop? I tried opening it up in Tarrasch , I added the exe file to the engine section but it only played about 6 or 7 moves with me and kept freezing... and I tried to view it's thinking lines but it didn't list any. I also have tried Arena but not sure how to add it there, also my Arena software is kind of buggy (has half German and half English for some reason and board looks weird now) . What GUI do you recommend? Ah, I just saw the guide/blog about it in more detail, it looks kind of complicated, why can't they just make some software that has Leela already installed in it? Like a GUI program already with this version of Leela...

so much squeezed the white if you get so much squeezed you know the end is near your pieces can not move to protect and the opponent has the ability to manner pieces at will , while you repeat a silly move out of desperation the only thing you have its for opponent to do a mistake the traditional engines need re evaluation of how the see their psotion fire position was terrible its was not a bit more for leela it was crushing for leela whats the point to have pieces that you can not move??
