It could have been. In my very humble opinion, the studio version is way over-produced. There's a stripped-down version with just Eric on keys and Graham on acoustic guitar that is astounding.

This song stood out back in 1975, They weren't a super group so to speak, But this song stuck with me for my whole life, I was 15 when this came out, It was one of those top five songs you remember from your youth. Everyone should have a song like this to take you back to the good old days!

Reminds me of the best year of my life when I became an Army Photographer at RAF Cosford and set eyes on my beautiful wife Rhona a beautiful RAF nurse. Wonderful summer. You will take the knowledge of the dates when all the people that you know and love will die. You will never find peace of mind knowing and dreading those upcoming events. Absolutely a brilliantly composed, arranged, and produced song that took multi-track vocals to places not seen before when it was released. It's very rare that a pop-rock song that doesn't have any drums becomes #1 on the Billboard UK charts, which it achieved in 1975. It still sounds great today in 2024!

The layered vocals in this song is phenomenal and masterfully done. Having their admin/receptionist whisper 'big boys don't cry' was the icing on the cake. This song is so powerful if you've ever been so in love and had a difficult time expressing it. It's a work of art.

Have watched several videos of this song, with several different people singing lead vocals, and even though Mick Wilson is not an original member of 10CC, have to say that his vocals stand out as the best of those on the more recent versions of the song. I was just now remembering where I was when this song was on the radio. I was remembering some things that were happening in my life. Then I remembered where I lived. A little apartment at the alley behind a house. Then I remembered the exact location of the apartment. I raised my hand and pointed over my right shoulder without turning my head. I just remembered that apartment was across the alley from my current house. I went outside at night and walked over to the dilapidated shack. I just remembered some things that I wanted to forget. I wasn't in love. It was just a silly thing I was going through.
