This song takes me back to my night clubbing days of the early '80's in Zimbabwe. There was a local band, 'Heritage', that used to play this at a night club in called Odettes. I knew the guys in the band and we'd sit listening to the music till the early hours. Good memories!

I agree, but I wonder what happened in this story. Did the narrator make it out of those encounters fairly in tact? For the "I don't like I love it", was that the narrator's thoughts or was that him talking the others down? True, it seems he physically made it out, as he got to the pool in the end. But then... I wonder what happened at the end of the last verse, if he did, indeed, try that harvest. It's interesting how this song seems to describe the danger of the place, I don't quite understand the choruses.

I'm a 65 year old American veteran, I just vaguely remembered hearing this song ages ago. My father was in the USAF and we had been living in Puerto Rico which happened to be where my mother was from. She came down with cancer in 1977 and we returned to the States the next year. After seven years living in Puerto Rico I had missed. most of the music and big cultural events of a whole decade...1971 to 1978. I had been able to hear a handful of the bigger hits over that time but there was a whole lot of music I simply had never heard of or the bands and singers that had slipped past me...this happened to be one of them. I caught it once or twice on an oldies channel during the 80s and 90s. Interestingly I had joined the army in 1981 and after basic training I was stationed in fort Sill Oklahoma. I was lucky enough to catch the first day of MTV, not long after that I saw this video. It would be years again before I saw it again on KZbin. It's one of those odd tunes that just sort of sticks with you, not a great song but humorous enough to never quite be forgotten.

When I was very young I heard this so many times. Like all great songs it had its time and disappeared off the air. I forgot who made this song and what it was called. It vanished and became a buried forgotten song. Time passed and all I could distinctively remember of it were the deep male voices "He looked me up and down a bit/I like it I want it" and that was the part that stuck in my head the most about it. Then when I finally found it after nearly 40 years it was so refreshing to hear it properly again from start to finish. Your memory keeps it dormant and needs a little jog to remember what the rest sounded like but it all comes back and you never forget it.

That's not very nice to say Viktoria! Surely you are not suggesting any other than these being the most handsome and dashing chaps!?

I love it that they are both good melody and rhythm people and it's all so relaxed and spontaneous and yet perfect and clever.

MARK JORDAN, a dormmate of mine during my freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania, was a member of this band. He was a member of the Penn glee club and also performed folk music at a small club on campus. Very talented guy from Warwick, Rhode Island.

This song must be timeless because I can't stop listening to it. I love it!

Its a song about getting mugged, twice. Despite the nostalgia it should rightfully be called "Dread Holiday".

I was born in 85. This is one of those songs of I've loved since my childhood, but I was today years old when I saw this video, AND when I found out the band was not Jamaican! A great song for its time, and a great memory/history for all who enjoy it.

The music video for the song was directed by Storm Thorgerson.[8] The beach scene in the official video was filmed on the Dorset coast near Charmouth. Golden Cap, the iconic hill and cliff of this region known as the "Jurassic Coast", is visible for a few seconds in the video.

Yeah I know, hilarious...seeing the stones, the dull arse English sky and those cliffs...I don’t know how they thought they could convince people it was Jamaica 🤣 The pool scene was probably some resort nearby...slightly more passable. When he’s strutting at the beginning, they did a better job of making it look tropical but again it was probably somewhere down in Dorset . If they’d actually gone to Jamaica or the West Indies, they’d have single-handedly kicked off the MTV explosion...

But one day at school a year or two before this came out, someone wrote "CHELSEA FANS ARE A BUNCH OF PUFFS" in great big letters on one of the paths so the Chelsea supporters there were going round in a gang stopping everyone and asking them how they spelt poof, wrong answer and they got beaten up. Naturally,I said "P O O F".

Great advice from the jamican tourist board. Come to Jamaica enjoy the sun, sea and the relaxed lifestyle. By the way you WILL be robbed. No thanks then

Listening to this, I always thought they(10CC) were taking the mick out of reggae, when really as I grew up, it's their homage to reggae. Great video!
