I don't get why some people are calling the anime adaptation "awful". The Visual Novel was too big to even fit a 12-13 episode anime so they had to introduce "all" the characters and their background story which were present in 5 different routes for those who never played the game. and I think they did a pretty decent job out of it. For me, Season one was meant to be viewed as an alternate reality where kotarou died and turned into a goddamn tree. Simply put, season one is just a simple set up for season 2, Moon/ Terra for anime viewers to understand the anime clearly.

It may be but as a solo thing it probably fails. What I say is, if they goal was condensing a huge source material in 12/13 anime episodes, they may have done it well but, at the cost of sacrificing something obviously and that is, to make an stand alone thing. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You either focus on making it a good proper anime that lasts 12 episodes or a good adaptation that packs almost everything in 12 episodes, not both because a proper anime can't be a jam in everything of a huge source material, it's as simple as that.

@@Night_Botto forcing 20 hours of story into 12/13 episodes was a bad idea especially if they were trying to go for an original kagari story mixed with sneak peaks at all 5 branches. If they got more episodes maybe it would reach a similar level to litobus. My expectations for the summer pockets anime will be tempered this time whenever that comes out.

I remember when I originally found a AMV of Rewrite, back long before the English translation came out. I remember thinking how epic it looked. Years later, I accidentally stumbled upon the English translation. Still one of the best games I have ever played. The balance between comedy, action, and drama was well done. Plus the interesting gameplay aspects with Mappie made the game more enjoyable. -Shizuru best girl, needs a better route.-

Personally don't think an anime adaptation of this VN would be very good given its length unless it went beyond 24 episodes (and that's not very likely). Most VN anime adaptations tend to be rather poorly done for the same reason - too much content, not enough budget/air time. Put simply: can you imagine any of these routes being done WELL in 4 or fewer episodes? Consider that the outcomes of each route are wholly incompatible with each other. No, if they ever make anime out of a VN, they would have to give each route 10-12 episodes of their own. And given the production habits of Japanese animation studios that's never going to happen unless a lot of money moves hands. I'd settle for a patch/enhanced edition that added in cutscenes to the VN at the cool battle scenes/emotional parts like we see above.

Rewrite isn't an anime.... YET! Though i prefer visual novels more. They are always more in depth and usually have better atmosphere. Rewrite is definitely my favorite Key VN so far. Made me cry left and right. My favorite character has got to be Shizuru, though her route was really depressing... :'( Highly suggested!!!!

Going to write a lot what I think of this VN (SPOILER ALERT!!!). Long text incoming so sorry beforehand :D I loved this visual novel in many ways. The soundtrack is purely brilliant, the routes were varied (though this might not be a good thing for everyone) and I liked how the plot was not "too romantic". I also really liked how Key made the story point out the earth slowly dying out (you know global warming and-what-not). It gave the story a nice ethical/moral depth to it and who knows if it opened someone's eyes on those matters. The characters were all very interesting and I got attached to them. If I had to pick a favorite route, I think it was either Lucia's route (I like tragic stuff... a lot :P) or Terra. Rewrite sure was very different from Key's earlier works but still recognizable as Key's production. If there was something that really stood out in a bad way, was the silly action scenes. Key has to improve on them if they are planning to make more VNs like this. But that was a small crime on their part. I really enjoyed Rewrite from the beginning till the end and now I am feeling the same kind of sadness as with all other VN/Anime that I've enjoyed and reached their conclusion :\ I'd rewrite my memory to read it all over again if I could x) Thank you Key for this journey!
