I have to admit that both in the book and show, Rhanerya would be a terrible queen. She was impetuous, arrogant, and petty and refused to listen to wise advice. Despite having kids with Harwin Strong, she clearly had no real affection for him, which is obvious from how she hardly reacted to his death. If she wanted an open marriage, she could have chosen a Velaryon, Targaryen or Celtigar to satisfy her "appetite" and the kids would have had Valyrian features. Talking about the kids, she put them in danger by sending them away from Dragonstone without real protection but blamed everybody else when they were harmed. Then there is the issue of the dragonseeds. She did not realise that, depending on their parentage, some of the dragonseeds may have a stronger claim to the throne than her. Ultimately, I think she wanted to be a monarch because she felt powerless as a woman in a medieval society, and she thought she would gain true power, autonomy and control. Which also shows how self serving she really was.

And it makes total sense as to why she’d turn out this way. Viserys mostly ignored her, Aemma was in and out of the child bed, so who was her adult role model? Daemon, her uncle who stroked her ego and showered her in attention and gifts to groom her. Who taught her the same adage he lives by: Targaryens are closer to gods than to men. They are the dragon, they can and should do as they please. It’s rare these days to get a protagonist that’s so complex

All prince and princess are very spoiled, you have no point. Alicent had no business blaming or questioning her about what he did with Daemon. Viserys stood by his decision to name her as heir, and she proved herself a better queen when the war started, unlike Aegon who can’t even speak high Valyrian. Also, she’s a mother, what was she supposed to do? Let her son get cut?? Laenor went away on his own, she didn’t kill him, and it’s not her fault that he couldn’t have kids with her either.

HotD season 2 tried SO HARD to make Rhaenyra a "girlboss, hollier-than-life" protagonist that they basically whitewashed her into a passive & entitled crybaby who doesn't learn from her mistakes (Luce's death is a clear signal that war is unavoidable, yet we get a braindead sequence of her traveling to King's Landing even though the chances of her getting captured were sky-heigh), doesn't really care about her relationships (Leanor dies off-screen and they just brush it off???), doesn't really think about consequences (Dragonseeds), trusts untrustworthy people too easily (White Worm) etc etc. In the end they had me agreeing with Sir Alfred in S2 Ep 8 - she is not a good queen material - and that's insane considering what that guy does in the book.

As a writing nerd i want to see this type of character in her from the season 1 , i want to see her do more unjustified things but the bad thing is that the show writers are trying to make her like the main character they think this is what a grey character is , and that what made people like you for example to think that her deeds are just overlooked because yeah the show writers trying to show that what she did is justified . I want to see the greens and the blacks and say to myself they both don't deserve the throne , and not see them and pety them both or choose a side , I don't want to choose a side that's not what grr Martin wanted when he writed the story , the story is about two power hungry parties ( like the real life politicians ) who wanted power

Thats why the Mysaria scene doesnt work for me, we never see Rhaenyra opening up in fact the White worm tells her entire story and then she goes to kiss. We never see the develop or at least more about the head of Rhaenyra, they made her the "i dont care about my feelings i only care to rule right" and thats basically killing her personality in some way

I think when looking at characters it can be helpful to some extent to look at models, such as Myers-Briggs. People, characters, deal with and show emotions differently. Also the level of stress a person/character has, would not necessarily allow them to show/feel their emotions. It's just not helpful to weep over your children when you have a war to fight and the next thing is thrown your way every day. At some point people cut their losses and take what they have to find solutions. She has an amazing capacity to not be vengeful for example, one positive byproduct to not delve into her emotions. A negative certainly not thinking too much about those gone at the moment.

Still better than Otto Hightower, he has a single track mind of gettin all the power possible for himself and his family, if Viserys was able to have a male heir from Aemma, Otto would have changed his tactics but still try everything to get the most out of the situation, maybe even planning the death of the heir if necessary. Rhaenyra is a self entitled narcisist, true, would she have been a good queen? I doubt it, she would have been better than some of the worst targaryen kings at least. At the end of it Rhaenyra was the de facto Heir, Otto planned and schemed to go against the king's will to put his own blood on the throne, and was ultimately the reason for the Dance and as such the inevitable fall of house targaryen and the extinction of dragons, it's hard to get worse than that.

the only fault of Otto that I really hold him against is that he never advised Viserys to fight the Triarchy, despite the concerned voiced by Corlys. Everything else is game. And Rhaenyra didn't really help her case either; sleeping with Criston, having *three* bastards with Harwin, letting Leanor do whatever he wants, etc. Had she played it right, she would've won the throne. I still think she wouldn't be a good queen tho.

Rhaenyra is just like viserys, he loved rhaenyra, but enough to not marry alicent, rhaenyra loves her kids with harwin, but not enough to not marry daemon. Jace would never sit in throne in peace just like rhaenyra for having brothers. When she marry dameon and have kids with him making them legitimate kids she screw over jace, people would question him sitting on the throne and even possible rebel, they would his youngers brothers. Even if aegon iii and viserys did not wanted the throne and loved his older brothers deeply, their kids would most likely not feel the same way and would want to take the throne for their bastard uncle.

I don’t care about personal moral failures. I care about the good of the realm and the truth is the Greens are better for the realm. Rhaenyra’s willingness to have bastards, her distaste for duty makes her a poor choice for the throne. She’s never shown to be particularly skilled in politics, in fact the opposite as she lets the Greens consolidate power in King’s Landing. She makes enemies everywhere, by disrespecting people, she doesn’t need enemies, like Cersei she’s her own worst enemy. Like Joffrey she doesn’t understand that she needs to be popular with the small folk, to make allies, because she views herself as better than them and feels she’s entitled to the throne. This especially bad because unfair as it may be as a woman she’ll have a tougher time ruling without opposition which is why it’s important to make allies not enemies. There’s nothing wrong with Rhaenyra fucking Harwin Strong, what was foolish was by siring 3 bastards from him especially when her husband is black. Having the children especially the first born being bastards was one of the stupidest decisions she would have done, first it alienates one of the few houses loyal to her and in addition by doing so she’s made her own succession crisis in the future as people will no doubt support her children with Daemon as rightful heirs as they are true born sons and not bastards. No body wants a bastard on the Iron Throne. If a war of succession doesn’t happen with Jace then it’s likely it will happen to Jace’s kids. And this is an optimistic scenario, more than likely Rhaenyra and Daemon will run Westeros into the ground because both are utter incompetent and Daemon is a violent psychopath. Now Aegon has his flaws, id even say he’s probably worse person than Rhaenyra but as we know a bad man doesn’t mean a bad king. Now Aegon may be incompetent but Otto and Alicent are/were (before season 2 decided to make Alicent stupid.) and Aegon listened to them. Having Aegon on the throne also avoids potential succession issues in the future and the potential backlash of the lords and small folk alike of ignoring generations of Andal tradition. Now to be clear this doesn’t mean that one day they couldn’t and shouldn’t be a Queen just not someone as self absorbed and idiotic as Rhaenyra. Ultimately if Rhaenyra was the dutiful rightful Queen she’s view as she wouldn’t stopped the war and accepted Aegon’s rule saving millions of people, including her and Alicent’s families. But of course she didn’t do that because the story should/was supposed about two villainous selfish people destroying their own lives through needless bloodshed.

imo this whole video is a massive reach. most what you indicated as narcissistic behavior is just normal behavior if your put into a state of desperation, which is where she is at most of the time. she also didn't lie to alicent if i remember correctly, she swore that she didnt fuck daemon, not that she remained a maiden. could be wrong about that part though.

Her state of desperation are borne out of situations she put herself in due to poor decision-making. Having bastards for example. She wouldn't have to constantly fight tooth and nail over their legitimacy if she simply slept with someone who actually looked like Laenor. Like the dude literally has cousins. Why Harwin? Vaemond then gets killed because of her reckless lies, desperate to wriggle out of another box she made for herself. Then there's ordering Aemond's torture, same thing. Alicent asked if she slept with Daemon mainly because sex out of wedlock is death for a woman in Westeros. So her asking if she slept with Daemon is the same as asking "So you're not a maiden anymore?" Yeah she didn't sleep with Daemon but she's no virgin. So she still lied at the end of the day. If she didn't, why did Alicent's trust in her completely disappear after Criston revealed the truth?

She never ordered Aemonds torture that's something a lot of people are clinging to but I'm pretty she meant it to literally have him questioned or as a scare tactic to get him to tell the truth but she never said "Torture"

After nine days of questioning, he died." "“None, this one grieves to confess. We beg your pardon.” Mercy, thought Dany. They will have the dragon’s mercy. “Skahaz, I have changed my mind. That will wring some names from him.”" I doubt any of these examples meant asking normal questions.
