Love his playing and songwriting, been listening to him since he first broke out in the vibrant music club scene in early-1980s Los Angeles as an 'angry young man' (anyone remember 'Cop Party'?), later 'escaping' California for Nashville. One thing I notice here is he plays the rhythem melody on the lower strings and complements it with notes on the higher strings, which is the opposite of most guitar playing.

I saw John Hiatt 5-6 times but the first two times I saw him at IUP with Tom McIntosh in the student lounge which wasn't very big for $12. We knew he was going to be special.
