Thank you for your never ending effort to suck us also into your deadly maelstrom of movie collecting 😉. I'm really I’m happy Kino doesn‘t ship internationally. After the Indicator sale, the Barnes & Noble sales of Kino and Criterion titles (that Amazon copied) and the ongoing Arrow sale (US and UK) this Kino sale would break my neck, financially speaking. And I just adjusted my shelves for all the new titles arriving in speedy fashion. The Blu-ray and UHD sales here in Germany not withstanding.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader Nobody does it better than you buddy. You know I've come to realize that Kino is really just about volume and releasing things that nobody else will bother with. For some people it makes a big difference just to have it available on bluray for example. Even if it's not the most technically proficient work. It's really up to me to remember this is their strategy and while it doesn't exactly fall in line with my own preferences they are no doubt covering some of the widest ground for home video enjoyers.

Highly recommend the Kino release of Brick - it's on sale for $10. Brilliant, raw presentation of a clever little film.

Long video with great content. Many titles covered that I am curious about and are considering to pick up. Regarding the superior mono audio on laserdisc regarding some titles, I don't plan to seek them out and track down a laser disc player. I can live with a less than ideal audio track. Overall, the content is well worth viewing.

I've also got my eyes on: - 'No Way Out' (4K UHD) - 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (1956 on 4K UHD) - 'Frogs' - 'The Food of the Gods' - 'Empire of the Ants' - 'Squirm' - 'Kingdom of the Spiders' - 'The Lion in Winter' (Special Edition) - 'The Projectionist' (documentary) However, some of the Blu-ray horror titles I listed are currently on sale for $16.59, but in my experience, those titles could go on sale in the future for only $9.99. So, as a Canadian customer who doesn't benefit from any free shipping deals on purchases of $50 or more, I have to factor in what the additional shipping costs and import charges would be if I held off on certain Blu-rays in the hope of better sale prices in the future. However, I may lose the slipcovers as a bonus in the months ahead. All of these ponderings are part of the thrill of the hunt, I guess. ;)

Death on the Nile is super underrated.

Yeah, 'Death on the Nile' is a fun one and it's always a treat to see Peter Ustinov and in this case, in the main role of Hercule Poirot. Plus, the movie has a great score by Nino Rota, especially the main title track. :)

Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun are the finest mysteries ever committed to film. The only three cinematic adaptations of Agatha Christie which truly capture the flavour, the mood, and the bonhomie of her finest works without sacrificing the mystery, the suspense, and the psychological complexity of the stories.

The High Plains Drafter audio is really good. Don’t fret about no mono track… Most of us don’t care.

2:53 It uses the same audio as the German MGM blu-ray, as seen on Blah-ray. It's quite a bit worse than the Criterion audio, unfortunately. The image restoration is an absolute stunner, though.

That seems to be the case with most of these mgm upgrades-lucky if the picture is a big upgrade and everything else is a crapshoot.

With the issues you have with the Ronin 4k, would you recommend getting the Arrow blu-ray instead if the option is available?

@@CRIMSONbarret254 it’s debatable but I would say yes. I think the Arrow is as good as it can be while the Kino UHD falls short in areas.

Eureka had a Fear and Desire release, its long out of print now though.

I missed out on that one. I had to pick up the original kino Blu-ray a number of years ago. I remember the Eureka release did have significantly better bit rate. The new restoration is fantastic. The problem is the UHD encoding is horrendous and the HDR is bright and all the outdoor scenes…you feel like you need to put on sunglasses.

For Fear and Desire, is it better to just get the cheaper Blu-ray with the 4k restoration or is the 4k UHD still the way to go?

The UHD is from a brand new restoration and has the all important premiere version plus new scans of the shorts…but the encoding is very bad and the hdr is vastly too bright so it’s a trade off for sure.

Wish Zorro didn't go out of print, Mark of Zorro with Tyrone Power. I was right saying it would go out of print and prices would spike due to Disney. I'm going to try and get a cheap used copy until they go for insane money.

Great review of the sale, id buy more but the Criterion sale at B&N is what i save six months for. Nice comments on your review of The Adventures of Captain Marvel, YES one of the best serials ever made!! I wish a label would just do one massive Republic Serials boxset...ahhh to dream! Question, So which would be the best version of the rest of Sergio L' Man with no name Trilogy to own. I have the Kino UHD of the Good The Bad and The Ugly already. So would it be a domestic or import of the others which would be to most definitive to have up til this point??

It’s a mix still honestly. The Kino UHDs for some things, the German bd double feature, the old Italian master of Fistful and for audio the old pan n scan LDs and vhs tapes from the early 80’s plus a lot of fan work to cobble together your own version.

Yesterday I watched The Train and something puzzles me: I am sure that there was DNR applied but it seems that the last reel (and maybe the second to last too) keeps the grain intact. Maybe it is just me?

That one came out first then Universal did their own Barebones release I picked up which had significantly better bit rate and then as far as I can tell Kino basically got that universal master and just did their own version and added a commentary.
