Hi from Greece. I read below in the comments that some people follow the procedure but the problem returns. Make sure you also do 2 things: 1) double click the refcount of the "good" sid and make sure it is zero, 2) DOUBLE CLICK THE STATE OF THE GOOD SID AND MAKE IT ZERO. Also check that the filepath of the good sid correctly points to the correct folder (i've seen the drive letter be wrong in many cases)

Really helpful video, thank you. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked for me. After I have deleted the temporary file and renamed the '.bak' one, I restart the PC but it sets up another temp profile and renames the proper one to '.bak' again. guys i am good at computer because i get my marks in 90 or higher so i have a better solution for y'all first thing is direct shutdown your computer and then go in safe mode then a setup will come saying something is preventing windows from starting then direct shutdown again and this time again run in safe mode if u see launch repair startup click on that to it will give u the same so if it doesnt come in the black screen where u haven't shutdown the computer properly go in safe mode again it doesnt matter because they both will be the same thing let the repair setup do its thing for a few minutes or hours then u are back in your normal account! remember make sure u had a account or this wont work

To those who havent gotten it to work, and always come back to Preparing Windows, I suggest if all else fails, do a system restore. It wont affect your files whatsoever, and I got back to my Microsoft account. I asked Microsoft Support for this, and my computer's okay now.

Guys if this doesn't work. Search for Administrator in the search bar after clicking the window button Type "Administrator" On the left side youll see add account Type ur account name enter pass word then switch to it. Everything will then work just fine

I'm at this point thinking there is something under the surface that's causing it in my case it happens literally every time I boot my computer up. It's been this way for almost 3 days now and it's the same thing. I first log in and I get the temporary profile, I sign out and then sign back in and then it's fine, it signs in without incident in the 2nd go. I don't know if this method will work in my case. I wish I went to this before I went to other tutorials. The first tutorial told me I needed to delete the .bak and the other one. I can still locate all my original files in the C drive, however when I go to the profile list in the registry editor there is no more .bak file and the 1001 number has been changed to 1002. Any way to still fix it?

Marisa ok. There is no issue if you are not getting that pop now. As you said there is no .bak file now. So considering your issue is already resolved, here is the solution you can apply to your current 1002 profile. 1) Go and locate your original files (You can get it under C:\Users\"YourUserName") 2) Copy this folder "YourUserName" and paste it in the newly created profile. 3) You can find the name of the newly created profile name by going into the regedit and locate the key ending with 1002. Check the value for "ProfileImagePath" Suppose the new profile has the name "NewYourUserName" 4) So copy all the contents from "YourUserName" to "NewYourUserName". Restart your system and you will find all your files and folder back on where it was previously.

This helped so so much with absolutely everything!!! Thank you so so much!!! For me, this didn't work until I followed all of the steps while logged into the TEMP account, not the Administrator account. That is when both the 1001 (TEMP Account) and the 1001.bak (My real account) appeared, and I deleted the 1001 (TEMP) one, then renamed the 1001.bak (Real account) one to 1001 like the video says. Then I restarted my computer and logged into my profile like usual, and although it took a while to load, everything is back to normal, but clearer!! I have no more annoying pop ups, and my user folder has my actual name now!! Thank you so so much!!!

The Run command also has to run as administrator or the Regedit should also run as administrator otherwise even after following the steps you will still run through the same issue.

I tried this way in the video and it didn't work. Maybe because I have Windows 8.1? I did System Restore and that worked! System Restore is at Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings > System Properties > System Protection tab. I waited a few hours for my PC to process it. None of my files were deleted in the process! System Restore recommend that I go to a restore point just before I installed iCloud. It says that iCloud might be the cause of the problem. Just before the problem began about a week ago, I was trying to use OneDrive for the first time. Maybe iCloud and OneDrive are the same thing? A message says that programs linked to iCloud might be corrupted, so you have to re-install those.
