Kira... I don't think you're getting it with this guy. It took me a while, but I think I figured it out. He IS showing you the game. You're looking right at it. Caspian is the game's NPC. He's roleplaying a game developer, and we're all here logging into his "game" not realizing we're already in his game. It's VERY meta. I can't say I've seen anything quite like it. It really blurs the lines between fantasy and reality in a new and creative way. Going forward I think this is the perspective I'm going to take.

Yeah for real. Caspian basically answered: "I fucked up, no wait, someone else fucked up. No one liked that. So I shutdown the lifeblood for the operation, fired many people, and stop accepting crowd funding; the only source we had that would move the project further." That doesn't sound like anyone who runs a business would do. The whole point of a business is to make money. Since he likes to title himself as CEO a lot, his goal is to make money with his project. It doesn't make sense why he would do a 3rd grade level choice like that unless he had no choice.

The saddest part of this to me is Caspian being so delusional. You failed, sure it's a bad end for the Kickstarter, but instead of accepting that reasonable outcome he's wasting his life on this. Instead of moving on he's so self-absorbed and deep into the idea he can actually complete this that he casually blathers on about years of progress that ended in failure as if it's normal. Everything he says should be extremely damaging yet he continues to publicly air it and his thoughts as if transparency is going to make the project, and his own efforts, less of a failure.

I would love a third instalment of this. Both videos of the Discord call have been interesting. Regarding Caspian's obsession with his devblogs, as a developer myself, they might have been interesting for people like me to read IF he had released a game. I love post-mortem on games. Listening to game devs discussing what went right and what went wrong is illuminating, but there has to be a game. As of right now, Chronicles/Kingdoms of Elyria can just as well be but a figment of Caspian's imagination. Discussions of an illusionary game's networking code matters very little to anyone.

Jeremy is what you get if you combine together the following recipe: 1 Part Ego, 1 Part Incompetence, 1 Part Failure, and then 1 Part Coward. The coward part is the spice that holds it all together in his lack of ability to show off all this wonderful stuff he's so proud of. Until that happens, I can't believe or really care all that much he has to say otherwise. Also, it's getting too late now to really show off things. That ship has left port.

PPP loans have specific requirements to apply for forgiveness. Recipients have to submit an application proving that they used the money for payroll & kept a qualifying number of employees in order to not have to pay it back. Companies that do not meet those requirements have to pay PPP loans back, just like a regular loan. Using it for business expenses doesn't mean they used the money illegally per se, as long as they don't lie on the forgiveness application and actually pay it back
@JonIkean

I mean best case scenario here is that he didn't apply for forgiveness and has to pay the loan back, meaning his company is still $250,000 in debt to the US government, in addition to being under a class action lawsuit. How can old Jezza here look at a situation like this and still say, oh yeah guys no totally I'm dedicated to finishing this game for sure. Like it's just not going to happen man lol

I discovered your channel through your coverage of this CoE debacle, and I could and would watch several more hours worth of this AMA alone. Sound only video does not detract from the content for me since I actually generally listen to your vids as if they were podcasts while I’m gaming. I’d like to finish this out in one more video, however long it may be, if you still find this as fascinating as I do (and as long as the algorithm continues to play nice/be beneficial for you- new vids from you tend to find themselves at the top of my feed and hopefully that’s true for most of us here). Thanks for posting this part 2

You are totally right about the trailers. My Game Tech. teacher last week called them Eye Candy. I make vids for the game I am working on besides school and people rather watchg sea water hitting land than actual explanation of how you can almost kill off a type of animal in an area.

Dude just can't take accountability, it's just an opportunity for him to defend his bad decisions. "Oh yeah, I didn't get this, this, or this done, but I DID get this thing that no one asked for done!" I mean I get it, I have ADHD too, getting those final details done to get a project out the door is the hardest part. But at some point you have to just sit down behind the screen, put on some music, take your meds, and get that shit done.

Would be great if you could keep the series going, its very telling. Caspian reminds me of some developers I've worked with over the years. It just sounds like he has no focus, no ability to prioritise and poor project management skills. Switching tech several times, additional projects popping up, low value activities and not a deliverable in sight. Yikes.

I live in the US in Washington (the state where his former office was in the city of Bellevue) and they did change the state laws about 5 years ago or longer where employers couldn’t offer non-paid internships anymore since it was being abused for free labor (because of course companies would). They can still offer internships and treat it like a part-time employee or I think you can earn credits toward graduating if you are going to college. I’m not sure if it is a federal law, but definitely in WA state he would have to compensate people that volunteered to work on his game. I’m not sure of the laws exactly, but I think this is what he is referring to when he talks about declining volunteer workers. He could still hire them on as independent contractors (Microsoft is notorious for doing this which is right down the road from him), but it’s evident he doesn’t want anyone seeing the state of the project.
