Dude the response is hilarious they knew the state it was in and just wanted to try and grab some cash. I played for about an hour and backed over 3 years ago. The alpha was in a better state back then than the release this week 😂😂 Yeah the way to get the key was stupid, the closed branch is separate and you have to sign into their site to get a new steam key

Ark only had six months and a million dollars spent prior to release? Thats herculean. That was a huge release. 40-50 high-poly fully animated dinos, and it looked amazing by 2015 standards. Oh it had bugs and the performance was a total torture test on even medium class cards (at its best I got about 70fps on ultra awith a 1060 which was pretty decent, but this game came out well before the 10xx cards)

I remember, right before the alpha got released, there was a stream with a KZbinr where all they did during 1 hour was trying out a kart on a track. This goes to show that some of the devs were just passing the time and working on whatever they wanted while getting paid handsomely. At least, The Day Before's team hasn't received a single penny from the players and are way more entertaining, and for that, they deserve 1000x more respect than QI.

On the one hand, its very possible to get a worse build one day than a few weeks ago. Adding just one asset to a build can break around 20 other assets that connect via programming. But its still a terrible excuse. Wheres the QA testing? NDA playtesting to ensure youre releasing the best possible build? Also, lets be honest just exactly how much better was that build from a few weeks ago? It might be slightly more than 8% positive but not much more when you have clear fundamental issues in the backbone of your game.

@@noFate_games2 good question. Like I said on the OP, there was probably no testing. No QA team? Beta branch testing from community? Nothing. Its possible they made changes, cooked a build for Steam and didn't test it correctly before releasing it.

@@NWNB90 Which is baffling in itself. I'm a solo dev and idk, I'm always checking how new assets I add are performing. But you could be right. This whole situation sounds like it could happen to me if I did this when I was in my early twenties. Get a bunch of money kinda unexpectedly out of nowhere, do your best to spend as little money as possible when hiring devs, you have money now so your care for the game has lowered, your funds now are drying up because you are young and didn't budget correctly, and in the end your trying to patch something together to release. I actually don't think this was meant to be some kind of scam at all. I think it was a young person who outsmarted himself somewhat. Knew enough to create a brand and a decent vertical slice that blew up bigger than he could have imagined. But then it was implementation time and he didn't know what to do as panic mode set in when funds dried up.

@@noFate_games2 its really hard to say what happened. We will never know exactly. But yes, the word "scam" has lost a lot of meaning imho. The typical Steam player throws it around far too easily these days. A game or update is delayed by a matter of days or something and it gets called a scam lol. But this sort of half assed release winds me up. I'm a dev too (indie, not solo), and releases like this make it so much harder for people like us to be trusted by players. Even if we're 100% legit.

Vein is a game that is in development with a good portion of the team that was originally working on Dead Matter I believe but they arent selling it atm. It has a free demo on steam that is MUCH better than whatever the hell Dead Matter is right now.

On the topic of builds getting worse, from my limited knowledge of game making I have had this happen before. While working on a map for a game using Unity I had a period of time where the map was becoming more unstable the longer I worked on it, I could not for the life of me figure out why and eventually the problem went away on its own but for a period of time the screen would randomly fade to black during playtesting.

as an unreal engine/renpy dev of a two man team, who was been working on games for 5 years,yeah it is 100% supicious,i do really think at the beginning they where truly motivated to make a great zombie survival game,but along the line maybe alot of disagreements and arguements happened which caused alot of slow progress. They should of done it bit by bit like in deadside where every few years they open up the an area for example a few towns to loot but not too much so they can work on it, create invisible walls and road blocks to tell the player still there n development

Uploading the wrong build can happen but why wouldn't you test the release branch before launching the game? sounds like lies to me. For non-devs, its normally to do "Nightly" builds for QA testers to find and help crush bugs

I don't see how Survive the Nights is like DayZ. Looks like you shoot zombies a lot in that game. If you know what you're doing you don't really shoot zombies much in DayZ, at least the style of Dayz I like. Would love to see a survival game without base building and not centered around shooting hoards of zombies but that doesn't seem to be a popular idea.

@@Jade-PG I don't mean without zeds. I mean not having killing hordes being the main focus but also having PVP. I want a multiplayer game with PVP but also having to navigate zombie/zed encounters that facilitate PVP. I just feel like there's a lot of styles of DayZ and lot of people haven't played in a long time but it's really the only thing that fills that role, the servers without bases anyway. I was hoping Dead Matter would be along those lines but didn't have much faith in it's development. Smoke and TheRunningManz have some great videos of the type of DayZ I'm talking about.
