@@robbiewalker2831 tl;dr It's inconsequential to the story. Long answer: Two reasons. 1. Metaknightmare Mode. It wouldn't make any sense for an alternate but same you to throw candy to yourself. There is the matter of the boss battle, but that could be written off as magic or a doppelganger sent by King Dedede or something. 2. Even when evil, Meta Knight doesn't come across as the type to be so overconfident that he gives Kirby the means to defeat him. But maybe that was in his character back then -- who can say? (Kind of want a pre-Kirby game that follows Meta Knight and King Dedede finding out about and sealing Nightmare, now. Or something even before that, which explores their prior friendship.)
