Hey! As an aspiring game developer, I always love thinking through what's going on when people send in janky clips, and I've got a hypothesis for the Falcon clip at 12:07. So, in order to determine whether a character is falling or standing, the devs need a point in the character's body to serve as a "gravity point". Basically, a specific location on each character needs to serve as the reference point to measure against the ground directly below them to determine if the character should be floating or standing. The naive approach would probably be to put that point in the character's feet. However, what happens when a character is in tumble and lands with their feet well above the ground? This could cause a situation where they either fall through the stage until their feet hit the stage or they remain floating above the ground until something shifts their hurtbox to move their feet closer to the ground. My guess is this reference point is somewhere between the waist and the chest of Captain Falcon(and perhaps many other characters), which would be more consistently the right distance to the ground as a measuring point whether the character is in tumble or just jumping/landing normally. SO. Why does that matter for the clip? In this clip, we see that Captain Falcon's feet are on the right platform, but his chest is over the gap between the block and the platform. Since the game is drawing a very thin line between his chest and the ground, it doesn't find the platform he should seem to land on and just finds the main stage for Small Battlefield instead, so the game leaves Captain Falcon in "floating" mode until he gets closer to the ground, where behavior resumes as normal. We learn at 12:58 that this behavior only seems to come about when the Captain Falcon player holds left. We've seen from one of the failed attempts at 12:23 that the block tries to push Captain Falcon away from it if his landing approaches the block from the side rather than on top of it. Given a neutral or vertical stick, I believe the block is pushing Captain Falcon such that his chest is displaced enough that it finds the right platform for Falcon to land on. However, by holding left, Captain Falcon now has a "force" moving him toward the block at the same rate that the block is pushing him away, which causes him to stop moving left or right. This "equilibrium point" just so happens to occur in such a way that Captain Falcon's chest is over the main stage instead of right platform, causing him to not become grounded until the block disappears. Idk if anyone found this interesting, but I hope this is somewhere close enough to the truth to help explain this phenomena. TL;DR The game is checking how close Falcon is to the nearest ground but it keeps missing because it's checking his chest instead of his feet.

Interesting, but not likely to be accurate in my opinion. You are onto some good thinking here though, you’re just missing some pieces Mainly, there is no “floating” state as far as the game is concerned. If he’s airborne, he falls with gravity. If he’s not, he doesn’t. Your explanation fails to account for why Falcon stays over the platform laterally but remains at its elevation. We actually don’t have to speculate too much to intuit how Ultimate would handle collision and grounded states. It’s well-documented that Melee uses an ECB (Environmental Collision Box) to determine player-environment interaction. It’s essentially a diamond with 4 corners that update to match the upper, lower, rightward, and leftward bounds of the model during any given animation. This will accurately inform the player’s grounded state regardless of animation, while also keeping their left and right sides out of walls. Given that perspective, what _I’m_ assuming is happening is that there must be some change in ECB width between transitioning from his “falling” to his “landing” animation, so that essentially when he’s grounded he has room to move left while when he’s airborne he doesn’t, and the switching between states pushes him back and forth above the platform It’s essentially a cycle before every frame is drawn of “grounded and move left, ECB bottom goes over platform so you fall, ECB width adjusts to fall animation, pushed right by block because you’re bigger now, ECB bottom is now over the platform again, snap to platform and move up, ECB width adjust to grounded state, hey you have room to move left now” and I hope you can see where the loop occurs. But yeah, there’s probably more to it than that and certainly more to explain, but thanks for opening up the opportunity for discussion so more people can appreciate it👍

I've heard and this has always been the only explanation I've heard moves like showing the Ending spark but not killing is like when a Knockback value and a % and all the factors allign for one to possible die from the attack but like what happens is that it's interrupted by another Attack which I think is why I saw it on the Incin thing in that one ALpharad video has the stage not existed and that Knockback been enough and not having another hit it would have been it or close to it essentially this might have been similar but IDK.

I'd never shield during respawn invincibility, its the best time to go for incredibly stupid options like immediately throwing out a falcon or warlock punch. You'd be surprised how much you can catch people with that, quickly jumping directly into an explosion like magic burst to attack someone before it wears out is also pretty fun.
