A few things you missed: 1:Kirby`s throws also follow the directional rule, but do so with such extravagance to emphasize said rule. 2:The reason his side special is a powerful but slow and risky hammer is to help show that, for many characters, side specials are very powerful moves that could make you vulnerable if used in the wrong place. This lack of spamming was emphasized further with the recoil damage. 3:Kirby`s copy ability means that he is actually one of the harder characters to master, as you have to have knowledge of every other character`s neutral special and be able to improvise combos with said special. Just like his games, he is easy to learn, but hard to master.

Actually, Sakurai designed Smash 64 to be a party game, NOT fighting game. Even to this day Smash is refered to as a party game first, and a fighting game second.

That may explain stuff like the original game being more pleasant with two or more players, as well as Smash Tour. Although, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe having Link, Villager, an entire F-Zero track, and the Inklings, it makes me wonder how Sakurai would handle the next Mario Party game! You mean Dragon King: The Fighting Game wasn't designed to be a fighting game first? Where are you pulling this from? It was designed to be a simplistic fighter that ended up being more aptly described as a "Four player battle royal action game" due to him not liking the preconceived complexities with what most people think is part of the 'fighting game' genre. That being said he's well aware most people treat it as a fighting game and has been supporting both his vision as well as what the fans want. As it stands, 64 was the ONLY one ever called a fighting game OUTRIGHT by him given the ORIGINAL title had "Fighting Game" in it.

Well, now it's got games that are similar to it called Platform Fighters which fuse recovery/platforming with fighting, so that's also applicable.

Kirby does seem to be one of the most unique Smash characters. His Up Special was the first rise-and-plummet one, his Down Special provides momentary invulnerability, his Side Special in Smash 4 can be charged while moving, and his Neutral Special speaks for itself.

This is such an interesting video to go back to now that Sakurai has his own KZbin channel where he delves into design and his own philosophies on gaming. Watching him speak on how he went about making the first and second Kirby games, I was very much reminded of you talking about the exact same thing here. Making games for people who have never even touched a controller before while at the same time keeping things interesting for veteran gamers, it almost felt like he was the one who took inspiration from you! I think that just goes to show how well made and well researched this video was, that you can speak on his ideas at a similar level to him.

Yes! You are so right on that Alax! What makes Smash Bros so different from other fighter games like Street Fighter, is it has the power to bring people together. I have my own experience, smash bros is one of the many games that gave me so much. It introduced me to characters like Dark Pit, Greninja, and even Cloud. I didn’t even know about Kid Icarus until I played smash bros. As the years go by I watch grown men scream and cry over characters that were from their childhood, and it’s a wonderful sight to behold! Lol! I saw you Alax, you were powered up when they put Joker in Smash Ultimate. So I’m going to end of my comment with this: Masahiro Sakurai, thank you for making Smash Bros. The world never have been a better place in Smash Bros didn’t exist. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories that you have given all of us. And as for you Relaxalax, thank you for sure your smash bros experience with all of us. Much love Alax. This is why Super Smash Bros is the greatest game of all time! If his f-air were the air gun, I can just imagine people doing it by accident and falling to their deaths. As for spitting out or copying projectiles people throw at you, I would really like that! It would be make Kirby a more unique character. It would also be a nice option, and I imagine it would be too slow to make it OP. I'm pretty sure the only reason he can't do that is probably for balance purposes; enough people hate Kirby already, and him having such an easy way to copy/nullify projectiles would make people more annoyed.
