There used to be far more parity in talent throughout the league, but in having a 2-4 team selection it pushed all the talent to the largest brands because other programs were barred from entry to the title game. If a 12 team playoff existed from the beginning the SEC would likely not have won as many championships. Do you really think the reason why the SEC won the title in 2003 is because they had more talent than USC? LSU beat OU, who got slaughtered in the B12 title game by KSU. But even still OU was considered for the title game. This nonsense happened all the time throughout the BCS.

The Star system is effective (usually) for positions where direct tangible characteristics play a large role in the position, but in positions where intangibles play a major role or there is considerable change in physical attributes of a player in college the star system is pretty worthless. If the 5 star system was truly as infallible as you would like us to believe then how is it that Mahomes, Mayfield, Allen, Love, Flacco, Rodgers, Willson, Purdy, Lamar etc ever made it to the NFL. None of these dudes were even 4 stars coming out of high school...... If the star system talent was truly as accurate as you think it is the NFL would look drastically different.

Biggest thing that hurts the SEC that hasn't been an issue in the past is the transfer portal. You can no longer just stack players on a roster as you did in the past. Those kids can leave and go wherever they want now. If I'm not mistaken, there even used to be a rule to where even if you transferred out, you couldn't transfer to another SEC school, that's no longer a thing. So you can get a former 4=5 star kid from Georgia or Alabama and he can get on the field at another school. The other thing is that because of this, it creates a lot more parity in the SEC which gives more teams an opportunity but at the same rime, it kinda waters down the product on the field and makes the teams not as dominant, imo. You will no longer see those type of Bama and GA teams of the past. This days are over and alot of the old folks, coaches, administrators and commissioner's don't seem to get it.

Drake , the Fiesta bracket took Boise state because the Peach didnt wznt them, thats why BSU was seeded above ASU. Plus the reason B12 and MWC were in the top four seeds is because that's how the the contract wzs negotiated in order for there to even be a 12 team playoffs. IN most years that would have been B12 and ACC, but since Clemson lost 2 out of conference games they were relegated to the plus one spot( also negotiated to change the contract to 12 teams.) The only true At large teams were OSU, INDY, and the Vols.........there was really no other team that had a resume to bump any of them. Restore structure to control of NCAA. 2) FBS = 8 Conferences organized based on geography each with 16 to 17 teams; 2 divisions. 3) Level the competition - ALL games in the season against FBS opponents: 3 pre-season non-conference contests, 9 conference, 7 divisional, 2 non- divisional, everyone plays 6 home games during the season - no more, no less. NO BONUS SEASON GAMES. 4) First round of playoffs is 16 teams: Conference Championships (Thanksgiving week) between division champions at home of lower ranked team, or at a pre-determined (before the season begins) site. 5) Round 2 - Conference champions ranked based upon Conference cumulative W/L record vs. non-conference completion in pre-conference play. Sites utilize rotating schedule each week from existing bowl games. National Championship 2 weeks after New Year's at pre-determined location.
