You know you don't have to use sword for that one boss battle. If you wait long enough he grows impatient and fights you anyway. The reason for this is during the actual story of Revenge of Meta Knight the ship is about to crash into the ocean so he really cannot wait around forever.

Fatty Whale's design hardly changed in remake. :) His shading just updated. I think that Heavy Lobster looks pretty same in both versions.
