Dearest Dame Kiri, you have been my inspiration for so many, many years. Every time I wanted to give up on my singing, I just listened to you and my passion was reignited. How I wish I could meet you in person to thank you - that has always been my dream. I was not fortunate enough financially to study at university or at a conservatory, and subsequently was unable to enjoy a career in opera. It's a sad thing, but perhaps it was not my destiny. Now I'm a bit too old for anyone to give me an opportunity, but I am training with a world-renowned opera singer and teacher, and I have the blessing of being able to improve and sing with all my heart. It's also my gift back to God for giving me my voice through my very special parents who both had such beautiful voices. I have had the honour of listening to you for so many years, and I know that you will continue to inspire budding singers to realise their dream. May you sing forever and continue to share your precious gift with all of us. To me, you truly are the best there ever was. Thank you so much and God bless you. ❤

I first heard this song while I was a teenager born and raised in Hawaii. I love the way how Dame Kiri Te Kanawa sang " O Danny Boy." Thank you so very much for this superb gift of song !!!!!!!!! Am now 80 years old and love this song !!!!!!! Robert S.J. Hu August 9, 2022.

One of the more favored interpretations of this song is that it's about the Irish diaspora, when so many Irish sons from the 19th and early 20th Century had to emigrate to Australia or America to find work, since their British rulers, who controlled and oppressed them with an iron grip, had denied them any opportunities for work, advancement or prosperity in their own land. And the song is sung by the mother saying goodbye to her son as he leaves the house for the last time - quite often to never see him again. In this light, the following lyrics are painful indeed. But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying, If I am dead, as dead I well may be, Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying, And kneel and say an Avé there for me. And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me, And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be, For you will bend and tell me that you love me, And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!

Danny boy é uma canção de lamento Irlandes , que ainda hoje sofre as tristezas dos conflitos, agora entre o país dividido, politicamente e preconceitos religiosos, já ouvi várias versões uma delas com Mário lanza,

Singing so beautiful. Orchestral arrangement very disappointing. Also...WHO told her to try phony Irish accent.. "comin'" etc...dropping final "g". Embarrassing to actual Irish people. As distinct from IrishYanks.
