You don't get the dropdown box which normally appears when you type in japanese, so you can't see what you're typing until you hit 'enter' (then the word appears), so it becomes more difficult to type japanese than just using roman letters. So for example, you can't see which kanji you are typing (unless they have the external preview enabled) and if they use only hiragana, they would have to press enter after every single character (which ends up being slower than using english characters), so when they do type in japanese, you will see them going back to correct mistakes quite a lot. that said, it's not impossible to type in japanese, you just have to be very familiar with keyboard input so you can know what you're typing without actually seeing it, or backspace and make corrections. The result is you always get hilarious moments as both people try to decipher the meaning of each sentence written in roman characters. which leads to some confusion
